Priesthood authority

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are some notes from a church talk. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

– Authority to act on behalf on behalf of God.
– Authority is confirmed power comes from faithful obedience to God’s commandments.
– Have different ordinances such as for aronic 1 pass the sacrament.
– Medecistic priesthood: administrator to the sick.
– Can only be used with Priesthood authority:
– The power and authority to act in the name of God. To represent him.
– The savior organized his church he had apostles. Then the apostasy happened and ma lost the true gospel and true eternity. So, there is a need for restitution.
– The church makes a claim, we are the true church in the world; it is perceived arrogant.
– Restorations of the priesthood Joseph and Oliver Cowdery were doing a translation of the book of Mormon. The lord only revealed things when the prophet joseph asked. Day in May they went through 3rd Nephi and came across baptism. He went down to the river to pray about it. Joh Baptist appeared. They get the Aaronic priesthood. They are told to baptize each other.
– A month later, they got the Melchizedek priesthood from peter James and john.
– This is the beginning of the prophet joseph allowed him to organize the church .organize the quorum of the 12 and to finish the translations of the book of Mormon.
– The thing that makes us different from other churches is we have the author of Jesus Christ.
– Joseph had the saints’ move to Kirtland Ohio.
– The greatest challenge of the church will be when we live with affluence. The coffers are filling we’re building temples. A lot of us have our needs taken care of.
– In Kirtland the church as poor. April 3rd, 1836: the Kirtland temple was finished. The savior appeared to Joseph and Oliver. I accept this house. Followed by Moses and bestows the keys of the gathering of Israel. Elias gives Joseph the dispensations of the gospel of Abraham. Elijah comes and gives the sealing power to Joseph and Oliver.
– Herald b lee; if nothing else had happened the delivery of those key justified the building of Kirtland temple had serviced its purpose.
– Remember the importance of this priesthood. It is one of the foundations of our religion. It is a common gift of every home is a priesthood holder.
– 1976 President Kimball came to work on organizing the first stake in Paris. They had missionaries as his bodyguards.
– The priesthood is a wonderful organization. It is the power of God. We have it in our homes. Use it. Remain worthy so you can use it.

Plot Ideas

Presentation at toastmasters.

– Morgan asked her to do a speech on this. Now that he is gone she will do it. He wanted her to do a speech on stories. The key to a story is to start in a direction and then you twist it. Many of her stories are for children. Would like three examples of when a child does a chore and it goes wrong. Does the kid want to do the chore? No.
– Siblings What could be a device where some interaction with a sibling goes bad. Brother borrowed skinny jeans when he was in skater phase. Snitching, fighting over the TV.
What about a sibling that wants to help blow up balloons. Does older brother want help from a younger sister when friends are around? No. My older brother could do three things he could do, he could blow it up, hold the lips and let it fly all around the rooms, the second thing my brother could do is blow the balloon up, hold the lips and make it sing. What’s the best way to get rid of the little sister. He let her blow up the balloon and instead she blows up her head. Mom’s Rules
– Think about Location, Motivation, and complication to make the story work.
– They were on an alien planet, that contains acidic water that ate their spacesuit.
– A whole story about why the astronauts’ bungee jumped into acidic water.

I went to some training on Feb 1st up t the state-building. this is a presentation by one of the legislators. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker. This is a submission to caucus corner.

– Judiciary Committee: last yr. we discussed abortion, conversation theory came before the committee.
– This year there are bills on the protection of religious liberty.
– Bill: if a confession to a clergy member it will be a crime if clergy does not notify police it will be a crime. The sponsor thought the right of children is greater than the confessor. Natural laws and natural laws precede the constitution. Institutional issues then we have the law. Rep said it will tilt the balance. Proposed that religious leaders not be liable in volunteer and won’t be sued. She was upset and not accept the alternative plan. Later came back and democrat said it was a good suggestion. You need to give a good reason why an alternative might be better. It can be sometimes accepted between opposing forces.
– Creating a baseline where people can succeed is an appropriate form of government. The United States with roads and a good communication system help unite the states to be accepted early.
– Many classes are in the morning on the weekday. Legislators suggested that universities teach more classes during the day and include more night classes. Move 24$ use of the campus buildings to 35% use.
– One bill is a warning label to be on photographic content.
– Domestic abuse amendment; is someone not paying alimony or child support. If a spouse has to chase them their partner for payments, allows collection fees to be included with the alimony.
– Stratton: lone no vote repeal of the tax sb2001 (tax restructuring bill)
– As a legislator
– 1 must attend to the physical state of the house.
– 2 oversight of the branches
– Three things on the creation of policy.
– On constitutional defense counsel.
– He is also on the water conservations committee.
– On the federalism committee (limiting the 10th amendment) few state powers go to the nation.
– Fiscally: State has a triple-A rating. Great revenue. Record levels of revenue toward education. A general fund. We do have a structural challenge. Pyramid taxing: means tax a company multiple times. 1. tax raw material 2. Tax manufacturing product. 3. tax also on selling the end product.
– The state population is planned to jump from three million to six in the next 20 years.
– Protect our liberty, our freedom, and our children.

Crafting personal and family Parables: Part A

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedin

This was presented by Cassie Ashton. It is a workshop at a storytelling conference. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

– When you tell an ancestor story, consider telling how that story has impacted you.
– It’s never too late for happily ever after.
– As a storyteller, she likes stories that teach then entertain.
– In relationships, you need to have character.
– There is a moral collapse with such examples as Enron financial crises and Political fighting,
– Students are barren of moral compasses.
– Teachers have to teach to the test.
– We have different intelligences EQ is the emotional quotient. IQ is the intellectual quotient and SQ is the spiritual quotient.
– Some say that those that have a higher EQ are usually more successful in business.
– Book: turning is about how to strengthen families.
– Strong families cannot exist without values. Society cant’ endure without strong families.
– Help kids by creating messages of a moral guidance system. In the apache culture if a child misbehaved the child would be asked what is wrong and they would ask did your grandparents not tell you stories?
– Ruby bridges book> is about the first black girl entered a white segregated school. One day 6 yr. old stopped on way to school to pray for all the white people who hated her.
– Truth & story> in the beginning of time Truth went around and preach the truth and no one would listen. No one was listening. Sister Story went around and people listened. To get to the right brain we need to use stories.

A parable is a short story with a moral lesson
The boy who cried wolf
Prodigal son
Emperor’s new clothes
Good Samaritan
– Parable means comparison. A narrative where the universal truth you are passing on a story you can use

Symbolism, simile, metaphor.
– Symbolism is the use of symbols to signify ideas and qualities by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from their literal sense.
– A red rose can represent romance
– Black is a symbol represents evil or death
– A broken mirror

Simile: a figure of speech that makes comparison showing similarities between two different things.
– Ie: soldiers are as brave as lions.
– Funny as a monkey.

Metaphor: my brother was boiling mad.
– If you want to teach something than include a moral in your story. What moment that changes you > section I the story.
– Book: story-worthy. By Mathew Dix. In the book, he suggests you write one sentence a day of something that was noteworthy. It might include the 5 seconds you have been transformed.
– When you define a goal of why first> then people will understand and relate to your mission of your business better.
– Assignment> choose a virtue. Such as respect and then tell a story.
– Respect is the virtues that illustrate the golden rule.
– Story grandfather’s bowl or Johnny Lingo stories teach respect.
– When you tell personal stories of other people, you need to get that person’s permission.
