Crafting personal and family Parables: Part A

– When you tell an ancestor story, consider telling how that story has impacted you.
– It’s never too late for happily ever after.
– As a storyteller, she likes stories that teach then entertain.
– In relationships, you need to have character.
– There is a moral collapse with such examples as Enron financial crises and Political fighting,
– Students are barren of moral compasses.
– Teachers have to teach to the test.
– We have different intelligences EQ is the emotional quotient. IQ is the intellectual quotient and SQ is the spiritual quotient.
– Some say that those that have a higher EQ are usually more successful in business.
– Book: turning is about how to strengthen families.
– Strong families cannot exist without values. Society cant’ endure without strong families.
– Help kids by creating messages of a moral guidance system. In the apache culture if a child misbehaved the child would be asked what is wrong and they would ask did your grandparents not tell you stories?
– Ruby bridges book> is about the first black girl entered a white segregated school. One day 6 yr. old stopped on way to school to pray for all the white people who hated her.
– Truth & story> in the beginning of time Truth went around and preach the truth and no one would listen. No one was listening. Sister Story went around and people listened. To get to the right brain we need to use stories.

A parable is a short story with a moral lesson
The boy who cried wolf
Prodigal son
Emperor’s new clothes
Good Samaritan
– Parable means comparison. A narrative where the universal truth you are passing on a story you can use

Symbolism, simile, metaphor.
– Symbolism is the use of symbols to signify ideas and qualities by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from their literal sense.
– A red rose can represent romance
– Black is a symbol represents evil or death
– A broken mirror

Simile: a figure of speech that makes comparison showing similarities between two different things.
– Ie: soldiers are as brave as lions.
– Funny as a monkey.

Metaphor: my brother was boiling mad.
– If you want to teach something than include a moral in your story. What moment that changes you > section I the story.
– Book: story-worthy. By Mathew Dix. In the book, he suggests you write one sentence a day of something that was noteworthy. It might include the 5 seconds you have been transformed.
– When you define a goal of why first> then people will understand and relate to your mission of your business better.
– Assignment> choose a virtue. Such as respect and then tell a story.
– Respect is the virtues that illustrate the golden rule.
– Story grandfather’s bowl or Johnny Lingo stories teach respect.
– When you tell personal stories of other people, you need to get that person’s permission.
