Book distribution:

At Life the Universe and Everything symposium, there was a panel on book distribution. Any inaccuracies or confusion is the fault of the note taker.

  • The theme of your book is a good resource to sell your books.
  • Determining who your audience is will help determine when to sell your book to.
  • Bye ISBN with Bowker.
  • Walgreen stores have 6 thousand stores also has lost orders.
  • The distributors will take you book but not pay.
  • IPG – independent books have a good report about them.
  • Amazon sells 41% of books.
  • 19% of books on the Kindle are on the Canadian.
  • Use ‘create space; to make hard copies of your book.
  • Have a lot of books? Keep them coming. Expect to have a lean startup.
  • Do a book put it up on Amazon then market it. You could sell the hardcopy to a publisher but you keep rights to electronic copy.
  • Find websites that cater to the type of audience your book is geared for

Addiction class, accountability:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are my notes for this week’s addiction class. Any inaccuracies in my notes are the fault of the note taker.

  • When you write something down have a better chance of achieving that goal.
  • This class gives us the opportunity of self-reflection, learn how to rely upon the Savior, acknowledge the streets and weaknesses. Too often we ignore our strengths.
  • We need to see other negatives but we also need to see our positives we are often better than we think we are.
  • Some people feel that they are distasteful because of their imperfections.
  • When you trust yourself to be accountable it can be of release.
  • If you don’t involve someone you only source of knowledge will be safe. He wants to cut you down.
  • One class member reminds us that Christ is gentle.
  • Prices come to save the world.
  • If there are any actions that could prevent you from going to the temple you need to make it right with the proper authority and with God. It’s
  • Each meeting you can share what you learn. You do not share with anyone else what occurred inside the class is a place of confidentiality and anonymity.
  • Often when we feel shame we can isolate ourselves. That sense of isolation can prevent you from going to others for help.
  • We only as sick as our secrets.
  • The Holy Ghost can tell you what to share not share.
  • You will open to a specific component.
  • The meeting emphasizes how the Savior has helped you and encourages others to rely upon the Savior.
  • When we feel vulnerable and afraid we may be tempted not to come back.
  • The meetings are not to point out members failures but to provide support and.
  • The apostle, Paul, understood weaknesses as he worked on his weaknesses, phone on his side, throughout his life.
  • Infirmities cause us to turn to our heavenly father.
  • The meetings provide a chance for us to allow Christ atonement to release us from our character defects.

Map making:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

At Life the Universe and Everything symposium, there was a panel on map making. In inaccuracies is the fault of the note taker.

  • Terrain will influence travel time.
  • Mountains and deserts can create the own obstacles
  • Terrain always influences the type of close the characters where.
  • Map will tell reader what is important to the author
  • You need to determine realistic expectations of how long it takes to travel and modes of travel.
  • Paths are not straight lines.
  • Maps are created for two audiences. The first is the mat maker why did they create the map. The second is for the reader
  • Check out the book the Atlas of fantasy maps.
  • Maps touch upon geological features and borders. They can also tell you the towns in the distance between them.
  • A map is about directions.
  • Today we describe directions by Miles but before the Miles it was by landmarks.
  • Some maps such as those for city will be displayed resources by layer. One layer may show the plumbing and sewage, another layer may show the electrical lines. Another layer may show streets or homes etc.
  • The names of places come from natural reasons for example one time someone saw an eagle on a rock they call the town eagle rock.
  • Why is the author doing a map? To help keep directions and to keep the world organize. Don’t spend too much time on it. It could just be a sketch of necessary.
  • When the tonic plates collide you get Mountains. Nothing shapes the land more than water.
  • Their programs on the web some of them free that will help you create a map.
  • Geography will influence populations.
  • Water changes geography and influences trade, farming, and influences where people live
  • Can draw the furs Guild has a great website.
  • Cartographers Guild has a great website

What would you do?  Why Mock CERT Drills are important.

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I attended a mock Cert disaster two weeks ago at the Provo city building yesterday.

In one short sentence: It was stressful.

We had two scenarios yesterday. Cert personnel had to rescue and triose people. There was screaming, people running around, alarms blaring. A mother wanted someone to bring restore her dead baby back to life. There were also confused people, blood, gore, injury. (All pretend thank goodness)

Mocks like this are useful because we can test our knowledge see how we handle ourselves under a stressful situation for practice. Even though I took the class six months ago I have already forgotten a lot.

How would you respond to the following?

  • – A front window in block 500 E. explodes and glass shrapnel impels into a mother’s arm. Should that shard be removed or if not? How is the arm bandaged before being taken to the hospital?
  • – After an earthquake, volunteers are searching the Cosco building. Part of the building has crumbled but part of it is still intact. Would volunteers still search the building? If so, what safety procedures and precautions should be followed by those searching the building?
  • – At 1010 S. a bad event has happened and two children are experiencing severe shock. What can be done to care for them and how could someone die from shock?
  • – At 400 e. Melva is trapped under a freezer and I can’t move. Searchers find me and they can’t lift the freezer. (All my fudge sickles are inside). How does one do cribbing to remove the weight from my lower body and thus rescue me?
  • – At 1070 S Someone had their leg amputated because of an explosion. Roads are clogged with debris so professional help will take some time to arrive. How do we tend to the leg?
  • – In the apartments of building B, there is a fire….
  • – Wait! That really happened.
  • – What would we do, if rescue was not quick in coming? The fire was put out. Do you know who needs to be rescued from what apartments? How would you get them down the stairs?
  • – How about this, during a bad storm multiple homes are flooded.
  • – Wait! That really happened too.
  • – These are just a few things to think about.

Now we can see the value of block captains to each of your neighborhoods

Church is to fix the comfortable:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I hope this object lesson can be of use to church ministries, Sunday schools, family devotionals or family home evenings.

I heard an interesting quote today at church/conference. I see it as a variant of the quote that “church is for the sinners”. A lot of times we as people become comfortable with our lives and might even feel that would doing good simply by going to church. But if we are attendant to the sermons and teaching shared at church and if we try to apply them in our lives we will have plenty of opportunity to still recognize our shortcomings.

One way I see that many people use to apply the Scriptures to him or herself is that he or she will put their name directly into the Scriptures. So when one of the apostles is speaking to the saints as in Chronicles or Christ is speaking to a center or an apostle teaches on the principle we have the Scriptures show us is essential recipient of this. By putting our names into the Scriptures we can better envision the sermons and Scriptures talking specifically to us and encouraging us to be more self-reflective and thus we can be encouraged to improve.

Objects for this lesson:

Place clean dishcloth on a flat surface and talk about how smooth it is. Next place some sugar or other seasoning underneath the cloth. Place the cloth back on top and rub against it and you can begin to notice the small imperfections beneath. It is not too bad so we become comfortable with the slight irregularities of the cloth and continue to live our lives like normal.

Now lift the cloth and put raw oats underneath it. Cover up the debris and rub against the increasing lumpy material. It is still not too bad, so, we continue to live our lives as we normally do.

You continue to deposit bigger and bigger items underneath the cloth until finally, the cloth is so lumpy the contents beneath it that we begin to realize that the shortcomings we need to be addressed.

Church can help us recognize those lumps.

If you have other ways you can use these object lessons please feel free to do so thanks.
