Terrorism and CERT:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

After over six months of having taken the CERT class I’m taking this quiz from memory. We’ll see which of the following questions I answered correctly.

You’re having a business lunch downtown when you hear a loud explosion. You follow others outside to find what is behind the noise. In the distance you can see heavy smoke rising from the electrical plant, the very same at the plant used to power your town and several major cities in the area and you saw on the news last night cited as a potential target for recently uncovered terrorist plot. All around you, people are speculating that the plot was successful.

  1. What should you do?

Locate your family and evacuate to safety.

You remember from a news report that the potential plot was uncovered when an electrical plant security guard noticed the same black van parking outside for over a week. Worried that someone is watching the building, he alerted some local authorities.

  1. Which of the eight signs of a terrorist attack security guard notice?

Surveillance

A friend over to you, a little frantic, and ask why you are not headed to the disaster site help. After all, he says you are trained CERT member.

  1. How to respond to your friend?

“You’re right. I am a certain member, but CERT members must not respond to a potential terrorist incident.”

CERT class review disaster psychology:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

After over six months of having taken the CERT class I’m taking this quiz from memory. I know one of my answers is wrong already. I don’t know how many I have correct. I need to review the chapters to see what I remember accurately. See if you can remember the correct answers.

You and your fellow CERT members arrive at a neighboring community following a devastating tornado. Survivors have been sifting through degrees and have found six bodies. They tell you about what it was like to find the bodies. One of your fellow CERT members starts feeling nauseated. He is obviously overwhelmed.

1.Which of the following is not an example of a psychological symptom of trauma?

Hyperactivity

Some of the survivors you rescue exhibit signs of trauma, and you warn your team ahead of time that they should expect some of the psychological effects will be directed toward them. In order to help your team better understand what the survivors are going through, you’ve also explain the four phases of a crisis following a disaster.

During which phase do survivors attempt to assess the damage and locate other survivors?

2. Impact phase.

The goal of an on scene psychological intervention by CERT members is to stabilize the incident scene by stabilizing individuals. You come across a man who is in shock and bleeding from his chest.

3.What should you do?

Address the man’s medical needs.

In order to help your team cope with the trauma experienced during the search and rescue, you invite a mental health professional trained in critical incident stress management to conduct a voluntary critical incident stress debriefing two days later.

4.What is the first step of the critical in Incident stress debriefing?

Sharing initial thoughts and feelings.

5. Which of the following is not a step that your team members should take in the future to personally reduce stress?

Take antidepressants.

If you remember the correct answers and in the following please feel free to insert them in the comment section of this blog. Thanks.

Addiction class 6: A change of heart

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are my notes for this week’s addiction class. The topic is on a change of heart. Any inaccuracies in my notes are the fault of the note taker.

  • All of us are affected by addiction either our own or someone we know
  • Christ in one to help us may ask: where you let me take this?
  • When you manage the demons within it doesn’t matter what demons you face without. They no longer matter.
  • The Book Mormon refers to the anti-Lehi Nephi people who had an addiction to being bloodthirsty. To completely abandon their addiction they made a vow never to pursue war again. That promise to not include their children who became the 2000 sticks and soldiers.
  • Be willing to let the Savior convert your heart. This can be done by becoming fully involved with the gospel and its meetings.
  • The act of study and understanding of the gospel from the Scriptures and leaders of the church
  • Learn humility so that you rely upon the Lord and not your own devices.
  • Participate in the Fellowship the church where you associate with people that are working on improving themselves you are.
  • Believe in redemption you can do your part and Christ will do the rest.
  • You need to have patience realizing that overcoming addiction may take time and effort.
  • Depend on call upon the Savior for help. He is eager to help.

Good: condolences

Bad:   condolances

I need to remember there are two Os and two Es. We express our cOndOlEncEs when a couple two Os or Two Es loses their partner. Thus two Os and Es.

I can’t think of any better mnemonic at the moment. I’ll add one to the comment section of the blog if I come up with one.

Do you have a better idea? If so please feel free to give that suggestion in the comment section of this blog.  Sometimes I just don’t feel very imaginative.
