At Life the Universe and Everything symposium, there was a panel on uses of symbolism in literature. In inaccuracies is the fault of the note taker.

  • Every book published should have a monster.
  • Some monsters may be human or nonhuman for example Hitler. Or someone playing loud music and it’s honestly.
  • Use monsters that match the environment. If there’s water around him, have gills. It should be a logical evolution from where they originally
  • There was a reference in the Journal of monks who talk about a monster. They did know what it was.
  • One historian didn’t know what was on the other side the mountain he would make something up. Such as Giants or people that lived without a head etc. He was famous for being in a good historian but made things up he didn’t know about.
  • We have an existing character, ask yourself how the situation be made worse.
  • For the author asked what scares me most and write about the things that scare you and your reader revealed relate to the story.
  • There are two ways of perspective. One can look out at a group of cannibals while another can see a target rich environment.
  • How to tailor your monsters to your audience. The horror monster has the ability to destroy everything the monster is the Hunter and consumer. Or in many SS stories the humans go monster hunting

  • Another book is called: the nothing – ever living story.
  • Cook your meal – book to the taste of your audience. Know what they want and expect
  • Cancellation may have horror elements but you do legend, the reapers from the firefly, TV show.
  • Kids section may have the head chopped off but usually authors will not have as many sensory details for younger audiences.

  • If monsters are totally alien there is no human sympathy. Is important to add human elements to your monsters for the audience to relate
  • Check out the book no name.
  • If you create a good enough world readers would be willing to suspend their disbelief.
  • Plot idea: words, someone leaves words floating around in the air and they become real such as leak causing piping issues of the school. A student might be terrorized and doesn’t dare move because they might be affected with the words surrounding the character
  • Plot idea: residue: monster expresses itself out by leaving remnants of itself. Maybe when touched by humans it may generate par their life force over into the growing monsters. Another way is that the monster sheds scales or skin patches and that creates more of itself but might even influence any humans that touch the skin flakes. Orbit is skin shedding it might be skin shedding of that exports the emotion of the person at the time that the skin which shed. Great having in the school

Light search and rescue operations:

This is a continuation of the review chapter of the CERT class and book. I am reviewing the questions but don’t know which of my answers are correct. If you know the correct answers feel free to give them in the comment section of this blog until I come back and ask he make corrections.

After a tornado ravages a nearby community, you and your fellow CERT members volunteered to help with the search and rescue operations. You arrive on the scene to discover collapsed houses, cars are swept up into the trees, and various debris strewn everywhere.

  1. As you begin the CERT size up process, what is the first thing you should do?

Gather facts.

You and three other CERT members begin searching the local library, a large brick building where many people in the community were instructed to take cover before the storm. A size up of the building reveals superficial damage, including broken windows and cracked plaster.

  1. How do you classify the damage of the building?

Light damage.

As you continue your search of the library, you make a single slash (/) next to the doorway of the first room you enter.

  1. What information do you write in what will become the left quadrant of this search marketing?

Your agency or group number

While stopping frequently to listen, you hear a faint cry for help from the corner of the room. You walk over to find a young boy who has shards in his leg. He is unable to walk.

  1. Keep in mind that you are searching the room with only two other CERT members, which of the following is not recommended way for could moving the boy?

Blanket carry.

Upon completing your search and rescue in the library, you enter a house with the second floor has collapsed, creating a lean –to void.

  1. How should you proceed?

Leave the premises immediately and mark the structure as unsound.

Addiction, Truth:

Here are my notes for this week’s addiction class. Any inaccuracies in my notes are the fault of the note taker.

  • We need to be ready to do a moral inventory of our lives.
  • We may be cleaning a shirt that has a spot on it and while we’re trying to clean that one spot may see another spot another smaller spot in another. This can be compared to an inventory of our lives and our mistakes we see the first big area that we need to improve on but is also smaller spots of things we need to improve on. Some of them are standalone challenges and sunspots may have been the beginning of a spot/addiction that has now grown large.
  • We must be fearless in order to be able to look at ourselves and give honest evaluations.
  • When we interact with others, we try to show only our best selves.
  • Think how we present ourselves at school reunions or Facebook.
  • The Holy Spirit can help us write up a life history.
  • One person in class noticed patterns in their life and saw that there was consistency in their behavior.
  • The Holy Ghost can be your partner during your self-evaluation.
  • When there is faith there is no fear.
  • If you have difficulty, during your personal inventory, ask God and the Holy Ghost for help.
  • Around step two still looking for meeting to attend
  • action steps:
  • Write in a personal journal; seek guidance from the Holy Ghost.
  • Make an accounting of your life, past and present
  • Remember your sins no more. (Some have literally burned up this personal journal as a token of a new life)

Uses of symbolism in literature:

At Life the Universe and Everything symposium, there was a panel on uses of symbolism in literature. In inaccuracies is the fault of the note taker.

  • Be sure to use the correct symbol to represent the thing.
  • An object or event can present an abstract theme to the story. For example a stop sign means caution or stopping. An eagle on the other hand may represent freedom. A musical score has different symbols to represent how music is played.
  • People don’t always agree on the meaning. It’s open for interpretation.
  • Use symbols not to show yourself as being smart or witty but it is a means to provide information in a short space. It will show more and less telling. It also creates a more active ingredient for the reader. Symbolism creates resonance in your fiction.
  • Resonance has to do with sound and tone vibrations. with symbolism you can enrich the reader as they read your work.
  • The presenter first thought that a pyramid would make a good illustration with symbolism but realize that the more accurate representation was a spiral going from small to large
  • Asimiles and metaphors are comparisons to things. An example might be love is a rock. The love is a Battlefield.
  • Consented to symbolism is it might look stupid if you use the wrong comparison of sound cliché.
  • Most symbolism matches the universe. For example you shouldn’t use the image of pond for a character who lives on the space station. They may not be familiar with what a pond is.
  • Small spots of symbolism can be briefly distributed throughout your book. While the bigger scale symbolism might be what the actual entire book represents.
  • An example might be of a woman dreaming of her husband. When she wakes up her bed is empty. This could depict the sorrel and loss of her husband or could represent her freedom after divorce. It could be interpreted as being lonely or free.
  • A good example of symbolism was in the force awakens the sun is being drained. As on solo meets his son and fellow tries to save his son the last of the sun above the planet is about to go out. They go completely out when the son kills his father. It represents that he’s now completely dark not redeemable. This symbol is essential to the plotm for examplek the sun dying was because is being used of fuel for the planet destroyer.
  • Dialogue – characters be in polite in conversation but that she hiding the storm inside. While around them a storm is growing and become spheres which represent their internal conflict.
  • Symbolism can be used for foreshadowing. Sirens in the background of the previous scene can foreshadow as a threat coming. Practice of character, who feels left out?
  • How could a character show their internal wish for success? This might be shown by how the character notices how well-dressed wealthy people are. They buy a lottery ticket.
  • Colors may also represent a personality.
  • Clothes, food, music can symbolize personality and personality traits. Their preferences show the reader who they are.
  • Motif is something that repeats throughout this book or story. One example would be how churches all share a similar window configuration or seating configuration.
  • An object peppered in a book could illustrate a certain emotion.
  • Archetype is staying that are universal to all cultures such as the hero’s journey
  • Allegory – everything is symbolized.
  • Symbolism is another tool to make your story more useful.

Disaster medical operations:

This is a continuation of the review chapter of the CERT class.

A category four hurricane as just struck your town. Your assigned by your incident commander/team leader to help conduct triage operations in an area of the neighborhood that has sustained damage arriving at the treatment area, you notice sections marked I, D, and M where victims were already been placed for treatment.

  1. What do the markers indicate?

Minor, immediate, and dead.

You are directed to help with the immediate victims. A fellow team member ash you to put some clean water to wash soiled gloves. you know the supply team is on its way but could be of service hours away. Grabbing a bucket you run to a nearby stream for water.

  1. What should you do to sterilize the water for medical use?

Mix one part bleach to 10 parts water.

Once you arrive back at the immediate treatment area with the water, the team leader explains that the victim has died. The team leader put you in charge of establishing the morgue.

 

  1. How and where you set up the morgue?

Away from the all three treatment areas.

A few hours later, you return to the immediate area and asks your incident commander/team leader for a new assignment. She quickly explains that the area is overflowing with victims as you to help reform rapid head to toe assessments. While preforming your first assessment on a young adult male, you noticed swelling and deformity in the victim’s upper left arm. After you have finished your head to toe assessment, we try to feel for signs of the fracture but the victim cries out in pain before you get too far.

  1. Though it is impossible to be sure out in the field, you should assume that?

The victim’s arm is broken.

  1. You know that you need to split the injury to prevent further damage. How would you proceed with the splint?

Splint the injury as it lies, assessing PMS before and after this.

Just finishing up the splint on your young adult male victim, a woman who runs into the immediate treatment area holding a little boy and frantically calling out, “someone please help my son, he’s turning blue! I don’t think he can brave!” You turn  and run to help the woman. You ask the woman to put the son down you can help.

  1. What is the first thing you should do?

Assess for airway, bleeding, and signs of shock.

While listening for long sounds, you notice that the boy is wheezing and his lips are blue. You cannot find anything of obvious obstructing his airway. As you glance down quickly at the rest of the boy’s body, you notice an angry red welt on his inner arm.

  1. You have reason to suspect the boy is suffering from:

hypertension.

I will have to check my notes to see which of these answers need to be corrected.

Addiction, Decide:

Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • Addiction is when your life is in a holding pattern and not evolving to the better.
  • Thrill seekers stand at a crevice of a cliff may take a three second to make the jump. So we can take a moment to make a major decision.
  • Since the Old Testament, Heavenly father has always asked us to do sacrifices. So when we must sacrifice our will to God to overcome our addiction.
  • When a ship moves from a river to an open ocean there is a captain that is specifically assigned to manage a ship during this tricky transition. They take command of the ship to manage the turbulent waters. So Christ can be our captain in the transition in our lives.
  • During the war in heaven we made the decision for Christ to be the director of our ship.
  • We are not giving our will to Christ as we overcome addiction we align our will to Christ’s.
  • The scriptures say “Man is that they might have joy.” Joy is when we are at peace. Joy is the absence of your anguish.
  • You take action on your addiction when we choose the pain of the solution over the pain of addiction.
  • A comment in class was made how a third of heave’s hosts who rejected God’s plan are now fully engaged in fighting us on earth now. A counter comment was made of Elijah showing a servant a hidden army. The servant was intimated the forces they were facing. Elijah revealed the armies of angels on their side that were previously hidden.

The difference between which and that:

That refers to a specific item. ie: that size six shoe. A visual image is to think of the two ts as fingers pointing to that shoe. If that can be removed from the sentence and it does not affect the meaning, you can change it to which.

Which refers to generalities. ie: which set of shoes is general and is not talking about a particular trait of shoe.
