Spelling allegiance

Good: allegiance

Bad: allegiance

My problem is consistently the second a. Maybe think of this. Two sets of E’s and two sets of As are at different ends of the word. They establish an allegiance with one another ex: a e to a e. The I is the border.

Here is more great writing advice from Life, the Universe, and Everything. The theme of the presentation is about how Comic suggestions.

Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • Audiobooks will be having videos and soundtracks as they develop.
  • With Covers, don’t limit yourself to stay in the squares. And seems to be jumping out of the page but art goes beyond the border of the scene.
  • When you lay out a comic page you need to decide that the whole area needs to get more attention. When there is a transformation taking place all the pages will look similar so as to not confuse your viewer/reader.
  • Limit yourself to three dialog bubbles per panel.
  • As you lay out your story and next page is a two-page spread are often a big reveal.
  • You can take up more space with important dialog that is a cliffhanger
  • It is good to have a cliffhanger at the end of each page to keep them reading.
  • Different between thought and dialog bottles. Thoughts can clue the reader on what is doing on or can provide world building.
  • Maps can help you know how long it takes to go from point A to point B.
  • Before you start to illustrate you need to draw detailed costume makeup and have it all defined so that the comic stays consistent. This involves character design:
  • Cost may influence you to provide a balk and white comic over color.
  • The first panel on the first page of a comic the scene is an establishment shot of the new location.
  • Character concept> you can define aspects of the character.
  • Generally, comics were limited to 23 pages but digital comics are currently 22 pgs.
  • Comic series will have their own standalone story in the issues and then the overall story/series has a main plot.
  • Will take a script, authors will try to put action and reaction on the same page but usually, the reactions needs to be the next panel.
  • Thumbnails can let you plan out the book/panels.
  • An establishment shot will be a bunch of people talking. Reviewers don’t want to follow people talking. Can keep better interest by providing a variety of view from a viewpoint of view or a view. One shot might be a bug climbing up a table leg. Different angels help.
  • ‘Jump the shark’ first happened on the TV show Happy Days with the Fones jumping the shark. It was so bad that it didn’t help the series. Jumping the shark is usually a desperate action to improve ratings.
  • End a comic with a cliffhanger and start with a hook of the next issue. Both. The hook is showing an overall view of battle is one angle.
  • Need to leave space on the page for thoughts or dialog bubbles.
  • Spot illustration is a single image with white in the background.
  • Usually, do 3-5 shots a page.
  • Conflict and suspense really drive a good story.
  • Also known as the inciting citizen and how do I support the conflict in the layout of the page.
  • As you introduce a new character you need to do a scene that we get to know each new character’s personality.
  • 4 to 5 panels now becoming more common over 7.

Establishing your brand:

From a lecture, I attended at Life the Universe and Everything in 2017

  • It’s a lot easier for someone else to talk about you than you about yourself. It’s called influence. Please don’t post me and post people at Walmart web site.
  • You cannot have a comeback kid without a fall
  • What is your self-image: is shown by actions. A brand always communicates who you are and will even precede you.
  • All publicity is good publicity
  • Own your label.
  • When are you pitching> It begins the moment you walk into the room.
  • To create a brand around your story it should be a one-liner.
  • Draw from your commitment –reach out with your commitment to make a cause in the world.
  • When you develop a one-liner of your life, it helps you define what your content is. You are creating content marketing. Sharing content on a specific topic.
  • All pitch ad social post to be consistent with your brand.
  • Pitch story that ends with a cliffhanger. Hook, main setting, conflict, and a cliffhanger
  • The main character is you. Want to share what you are and what it about.
  • Why are you the one to write this book?
  • How do you present yourself? Clothes will make the man. The headshot needs to be you. It needs to be of you that you’re smiling. You connecting with others.
  • Conflicts: what shows you as the person to be qualified to tell our story.

  • Influence marketing: is teaming up with other people. If one of your writers has a great blog and they have content that you love then ask them to write a guest post for hour blog. Team up with other people. Find people of influence. Ask them how can I help you.
  • Josh Rossi reenacted with Beauty and the beast. One example is she contacts a Facebook creator of top 50 mailing lists and asked how can I support you? I’m writing a book? And in turn, he asks what can I do for you?
  • As an author social media is not enough. You need a website. When you get people off social media onto your website you are center stage. And your content can keep people interested in you.
  • The stage you play on makes a difference.
  • Business cards. You leave your info and you ask them of their contact info. If they don’t have a card, ask them for their contact info. Treat your contact info with meaningful contact about things they would be interested in. They may know someone movie producer.
  • Connect with people by putting at bottom of a Facebook page I am interested in meeting with xxx. Your network is gold.

Gratitude

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Notes from a lesson at church.

  • Gratitude is learned.
  • Gratitude to a heavenly father is say yes even though you want to say no.
  • The opposite of gratitude is taking things for granted.
  • How often in our prayers do we give a list of what we are thankful for?
  • Resist going on autopilot of a prayer. Think of specific blessing for on a specific day to be more specific for prayers.
  • Br peters looking a tank of fish and asked who feeds the fish. Attending who fees them. Attendant. I do. Have they ever thanked you? O. just like heavenly father helps us and we don’t hank him.
  • Amon: let us give thanks to God.
  • On a mission, every companion you have will teach something important in your life.
  • Our struggles can turn into strengths. Christ; I will make weak things strong.
  • A mission is not the best two years of your life but is the best two years of your life.
  • In prayer have a conversation and talking to our Heavenly Father. Talk about our life to God

Spelling deniability

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Good: Deniability

Bad:   Denighability

I do spell the first of the word correctly, deni. Just add ability at the end and I’ve got it. The root of the word is deny. Maybe if I use the mnemonic of sound y and I sound the same and deny-ability. We’ll see if I can remember that.

Horror and comedy both create a physical response

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here is more great writing advice from Life, the Universe, and Everything. The theme of the presentation is about how horror and comedy both create a physical response.

Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • Laughing is a social response to screaming.
  • Movie: Oscar > Stallone comedy.
  • We can relate to scary because we’ve all had creepy people near us.
  • Humor and horror can range from low to highbrow. Anything done by the Farley brothers: dumb and dumber, 3 stooges. Focus more on physical or don’t have a moron a dead bird to a blind kid.
  • We run toward sex and run away from blades, that is how humans have survived.
  • Highbrow horror: physiological. Exorcist is an example. Most of the fear grows out of the relationship between characters.
  • Slasher doesn’t survive because teens bang/sex and die.
  • Low brow: torture porn. Slasher movies: how to kill someone.
  • Differences between horror and fantasy:
  • Lighting and longer lens.
  • Comedy depends on lighting. And it’s far away and shots are taken at a longer leans.
  • Horror brings us in close and usually dark.
  • When someone is close you can only see the face. Don’t see body and hands that could cause harm.
  • Intimate means you don’t know what the other is doing. We surrendering our knowledge of what the other is doing.
  • In comedy, our character does not see what is coming but the audience sees what is coming.
  • There is only one necessity of a horror book is that it has to scare me.
  • Everyone is the hero of their own story.
  • A person who used to tell dead baby jokes. It was funny until he had his wife lost a child.
  • Lack of lighting is sensory deprivation.
  • Scream: made fun of scary movies.
  • In every great comedy humor movie is a moment of true horror we get to know that character. There must be something that the character needs to be is in threat of losing something important to them.
  • Horror needs to have a moment of levity.
  • We go to horror to be uplifted because we survive.
  • We can’t exist in one without existing in the other.
