The importance of the family

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Notes from church.

–          President Hinckley: the family is under attack.

–          Society is based on the family.

–          We want to strengthen the family.

–          Father show faith by example to his family.

–          Prayer: one family does morning and evening prayer. If the Father absent, the Mother continues the act. A child lost something and the parents help the child to pray and they find the item.

–          Repentance connected with forgiveness. If you have contention you repent of your actions and acknowledge that you may also be at fault.

–          Respected: respect God, respect yourself. couples respect each other. Respect between siblings. Consider what words that share depict.

–          Love: how they feel a part of the family.

–          Compassion: serving and loving others.

–          Work: parents can teach each other to work.  Parents may share what they do for their work and the family can help their work be successful.

–          Recreations activity: family basketball, visiting relatives, play music together.

–          Sharing your family by inviting people to family home evening. Be an example to others.

–          President Hinckley says: to you women of great influence it will cost less to reform our schools. It is through the home. (paraphrase)

–          Encourage your legislators to support laws that are pro-family.

–          Have your first concern to your partner. That will better ensure the success of the marriage.

–          Extended family should support single parents and their kids.

–          Br. Hales: the plan of the father is that family love will continue through the eternities… so that all can dwell together in eternity. It is not enough to save ourselves but the rest of the family.

Living a Christ-like life:

Some notes from a church talk. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • We can give offer up our hands to serve God.
  • You are my hands. a statue of Christ in a town in Germany was bombed in WW 2. Restored it but could not do the hands. They could have a sculpture create new hands. The people decided to have no hands. Instead, they put a sign under the handless statue. We are his hands.
  • The Savior himself could do things for us. But to be a part of this gospel we need to help each other.
  • Who do we serve?
  • Jesus served everyone. He served people who didn’t like him, served sinners, served people who were poor.
  • Luke 18:9-14. Two people went to the temple to pray one said thanks for all. Republican man hit his chest a far off. Christ went and testified in the house of the second.
  • We must not judge others.
  • Lady said, “I’m a battered $20.” Someone responded to her. The money is battered, torn and dirty. But it’s still worth $20.
  • Urdorf: when we serve something happens to us. Our own spirit becomes healed.
  • Jesus loved us all unconditionally. Love others as I have loved you.
  • Jewish legend: two men zimmeron and Abraham who owned a field together. They agreed to divide labor and harvest. Zimmeron thought the other has a family to support. Went out into the field and took a third of his pile and put it on Abrahams pile. Abraham put 3rd on zimmeron’s pile think he has no family.
  • President Kimball was an apostle was at an airport. A pregnant woman had a Two-year-old daughter. The child was upset and tired but the mother had dr. orders to not lift the child. A stranger came up and offered help. Went up the line and arrange for transfer to get on next flyer. Years later the 21 yr. who was the baby entered the mission field.
  • Urdorf: as a young pilot went to Texas. He was worried about competing for the desired position. He worked on building a chapel for the branch between studies. Brethren we do not honor Priesthood if we are not kind of others
  • Be kind and loving and Christ-like all year around not just during Christmas.

Good: cauliflower

Bad:   calaflour

The Cauliflower does look like flower buds about to bloom. It’s the first half that trips me up. It’s the uli that messes me up in the word. When you boil cauliflower in a pan and the u looks like a pan and pronounce out the li. We’ll see if that works.

Move forward with faith

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

These are notes from a talk at church.

  • Faith prompts us to pray and go to work.
  • When raising children, faith dictates all your actions. You can teach children when they make a mistake that they can repent and with faith continue to be better.
  • One single mother uses faith to work two jobs and go to school and raise a family
  • Faith is the basis of testimony
  • We have examples of the faith of the pioneers as examples. They left their homes and crossed the plains into the unknown.
  • Faith can include we will do what we can do and let God help us with the rest.
  • Mother had insomnia for weeks in fear her child would stop breathing in the night. She was so tired. She prayed for God to assure that her child would be cared for the night. She had a calm spirit and comforted she could then sleep.
  • Concentrating on other people’s needs can help us not worry so much on our own.
  • Sometimes we can see ourselves today and how we have survived past challenges and that can encourage us to think we can overcome future challenges.
  • Faith in the gospel and principle of Christ. Those principals can give us peace.
  • The antidote to fear is the pure love of Christ.

State legislation Process:

I went to a presentation about states legislation. Here are my notes. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

Info provided by Mike Kennedy state rep and state Auditor John Dougall.

Processing a  bill through state legislators:

  • Draft bill
  • Rules committee
  • Take to state congress
  • House floor 38 off floor
  • Senate rules
  • Senate committee
  • Senate floor
  • Governor vote. Need a super majority for a veto on governor’s decision.

Law Bootleggers and Baptists: Baptists told of the evil of alcohol. It became illegal. Bootleggers made more money selling illegal alcohol. Look at any bill and look for unholy care. Those who make the moral case are those who will make money.

Functions of State auditor department.

  • Constitutional watchdog.
  • Help citizens overlook institutions
  • See how different cities spend their money.
  • Transparent .utah.gov give financials of states cities and other government entities. Look at last fiscal year to see how your city council spends their money. https://www.utah.gov/transparency/
  • Department can block funds if they don’t provide a budget.
  • State audit budget. Financial audit. Organizations will try to make themselves look good.
  • will review Federal agencies to make sure they’re following Federal regulations
  • Performance audit efficiency of programs of gov.
  • Special project: look for abuse.
  • Can do data audit. The state collects citizen sensitive data > how is it protected.

Le.utah.gov >

  • Track the bills of interest. It can tell you where in the legislative process they are.
  • Can do a search by topic give me all bills on education.
  • Tag a bill> change of status to get notified.
  • Hb86 hate bill. See if your rep is on the committee. If yes, send an email the day before of your reviews on that bill.
  • On emails to your legislators:
  • Brief header on Subject line: Vote NO on Bill ABC123 (short name of bill)
  • Top of your email, include your address and phone number. That way you show you are in their district.
  • Give three short bullet points why they should vote Yes or No.
  • Contact the day before
  • Many time legislators don’t know what people want because they are not told and they only hear the voices of special interests.
  • If you have an objection for a regulator be respectful, even with your city council. Best if you have a solution.
