Using nature to teach important principals:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Sunday school lesson reminded us how often Christ used items of nature to teach less. For today’s object lesson I thought I’d expand on the concept. I hope this lesson can be of use to youth ministries, family devotionals, Sunday schools and family home evenings. .

Christ used every day people and nature to teach important princiapls. Please reference list below:

Barren fig tree luke 13:6-9
Good shepherd john 10:1-18
Growing seed mark 4:26-29
Laborers in vineyard matt 20:1-16
Lost sheep luke 15:4-7
Mustard seed matt 13:31-32
Net of fish matt 13:47-50
Tares in field matt 13:24-30
Vine and branches john 15:1-17

Now for the assignment, this could be used for young children as well ask older. Go ahead and watch a short video (YouTube perhaps) that will show some images of a bird in flight. Now use the bird in flight to teach a lesson. One example might be that a bird has to continually flap its wings continuing to fly. This might touch upon the principal of consitend work or labor to reach a goal. There may be times it takes advantage of the currents to coast in the air. You may want to talk about how it uses currents to fly. This might touch upon how to work effectively where good planning, early, can help you make a job easier later in the process.

Select an object of nature and try different themes attached to the behavior of a bird. This might range from how it builds its nest, to a parent bird acting hurt to lure a predator away form its vulnerable young.

Use those concepts and connect them to religious principles.

If you have ideas of what you think would be good as object lessons of nature, please feel free to share in the comment section this blog. Thank you.

Difference between Affect and Effect:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Affect = I remember I must act to achieve a goal thus A as in Action.
Effect = I remember e as in the end result of what you did.

Also in the alphabet a is before e and so action before end result.

How do you remember the difference? Please share your ideas in the comment section of this blog.

What kind of storyteller or you?

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

At one of the Timpanogos storytelling meetings, I listened to a great presentation about how to determine what kind of storytelling, you are. Then I saw a presentation on how to determine who is your audiences. I thought I would share my notes on what kind of storytelling, you are this week and fighting your audience next week.

Ashes of a series of questions as what you like, they often reflect the current storage like to tell. Here are a couple:
– what are your favorite three movies?
– What kind of stories you like to listen to?
– What kind of books do you like to read?
Find what is common between these lists. Do they share common plots, themes or topics.
People tell stories because they have some to say. Examples
– George Lucas: epic journey.
– Garrison Keillor (family home companion on radio PBS) small towns.
– Movies like animal house or Ghostbusters: the bazaar.
– Bill Lucas storyteller: wants to expand imagination. See the absurdity in things
– Bill Harley storyteller: children versus adults champion the little guy.
More questions:
– why do you want to tell a story?
– Why of the stories you tell necessary?
These stories may help you define why you want to do storytelling. When you know this. This is can help you determine where you need to concentrate your energies, improve networking contacts and also develop your marketing.

Learn how to navigate the state county sites that you want to buy property from.
Building drawing can show how the home was built out.
Tax collectors record in county = gives history. Look for owner occupied
Owner occupied may show the owner with the add. Of the property tells you that they’re still in the home.
Check the property condition: what it looks like, ascetics, surroundings. Look for address on door. Look from satellite.
Neighborhood looks clean
Look how property in the past and what is the trend of sales.
Get good info with tax collector or treasurer and county assessor. Property appraiser is usually whoever is in charge of assessing the taxes.
Property history is very important
Map of the neighborhood and see what other properties sell for
Look at home values and listing
Property history Look for problems. Watch out for the city has its separate taxes on it.
For help from adviser need to know a. sale, bid amount, link to sale, and link to some history. Go to the country option and county records and copy the web site link and past it in and look it up.

Following the promptings of the spirit:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I hope this lesson can be of use to youth ministries, family devotionals, Sunday schools and family home evenings. Tonight’s topic is following the promptings of the Holy Spirit or of the Holy Ghost.

Various Scriptures talk about the spirit of the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit. The spirit can help us gain a testimony of the divinity of Christ. It can also help us know what’s right and wrong. If you want to study a certain principle of the gospel Jesus Christ, we can study the Scriptures, and pray to God of discuss our questions and concerns. He can sometimes answer our questions through the Holy Spirit.

As we seek a response, we need to remember that there may not be a great noise from which we get an answer, but rather, it may be a still small voice or prompting It may be a simple impression. And for my personal challenge, I need to have the patients to be quiet eought to get a response. Some us pray and then don’t open the door to give God a chance to anser. And often we may want to make the best decisions we can, and then ask God if we’ve made a good choice. God may often answer by the Holy Spirit which may help us feel a calm comfort rather than having anxiety.

The Holy Spirit can be compared to a magnet. It can pull our our minds and thoughts in a certain directions.

Objects for lesson a strong magnet, a cardboard table and a paper clip.
Borrow a strong magnet and hold it beneath a table. Place a piece of paper on the desktop and then a paper clip. Moving the magnet around beneath the paper clip, should move the paper clip as well. The magnet is not touching the paperclip, but the impressions of the Holy Ghost or the magnet can draw the paperclip to follow a certain path.

The Holy Ghost can help us make decisions throughout our daily lives. It could help us better understand gospel principles. When we have a question, we can read the Scriptures, and pray. Heavenly father may answer our questions in multiple ways. The answer may come from the Scriptures themselves. Someone that we know may say something that widens our perceptions. Other answers may come from the Holy Ghost. God by leaving an impression in our hearts through the Holy Ghost.

As we involve God in our lives, our mindset may influence our business decisions. We would use the principles of integrity and endeavor live better lives. Our values influence how we conduct our business affairs.

We can ask for God’s influence about important decisions in our life and we may be given an impression. As we follow God’s promptings we become more attuned to God and have the motivation to do good things, the Holy Spirit obtains a positive receptacle in which to better communicate.

Through practice we can get better in following the prompting of the spirit.

I like to share an example, my personal life. Several years ago, I had a sprinkler problem that caused damage in my basement. Possessions were damaged. I was told that the flooding created a dangerous mold. So I needed to get rid of the boxes that contained different possessions. I was at a loss of where to find a good source of boxes. But then I had a prompting of the Holy Spirit to seek out the church cannery to purchase boxes. I was able to buy enough to meet my needs at a reasonable price. I know God inspired me to access this source for boxes.

We may all have experiences where we felt an impression to respond in a certain way and our actions made the situation better. Some of us need a lot more practice in following the spirit. I’m glad to see how it has provided a positive influence in my life when I pay attention. My invitation is that we seek out the spirit as we make decisions, so we can be wise and do actions in accordance to the gospel Jesus Christ.

If you have ideas to share this concept, please do so in the comment section of this blog. Thanks

Bad: inguinity
Good: ingenuity

This is stretching it a bit but this might help. Why is it always to have a person with ingenuity on your team? They come up with smart solutions. Smart people are sometimes nick named eggs heads. So maybe I’ll remember ingEnuity with E as in egg head.

Have a better idea, please share an alternative idea to this in the comment section of the blog.
