Found this quote on Facebook and thought I would expand on this theme. I hope this topic can be of use to youth ministries, family devotionals, Sunday schools and family home eveneings.

The same boiling water that softens the potato also hardens the egg. It not the circumstances but rather what you are made of.

This could be interpreted multiple ways. Hardship can turn someone bitter or hard. It can also make someone realize that they do possess a grit and determination they didn’t think they possessed. I think of the movie True Grit on this concept. When we read about the stories of many sports heroes they will often relate the hours and hours of practice they endured to refine their craft. As result, they become recognized for their skills.

I’d like to touch upon how once can become soft through challenges. I have a friend who has extreme allergies to many things in life. A second friend could not understand or relate how this person could be so sick. The second person later got mono. That person’s entire perspective changed through their own challenges of having to sleep two days out of three because of extreme exhaustion. Their heart softened to others’ trials because of their own.

Have the family or class discuss various challenges in their lives or people they know about and discuss how challenges has made them software or harder in a positive way.

I had to do a speech for toast masters so I made up a new company and project. And I was supposed to tell about the company on a radio show. Here is some of the stuff I came up with.
This is a Q & A by a pretend radio broadcaster:

Q: What contributed to the creation of Edutainment?
The concept was created by the aspect of making education fun and sibling rivalry.

Q: Sibling rivalry: explain?
I have a twin brother. As siblings’ do, we fought when we were young. In high school was being picked on by someone at school. He found out about it on our drive home. He had a car then. My brother got all protective. It made me realize that family members can fight amongst ourselves but we’re family. That is part of many family dynamics. When it comes to others hurting us… keep their hands off.
This made me realize that the more ways we can make education emotionally relevant to the student by what they see, touch and do, the stronger connect that student will have on the topic of the lesson.

Q: What is the goal of your organization?
To help engage students through all sensory stimuli and via entertainment broadening their respective on topics discussed in class.
The combination of education and entertainment becomes EduTainment and thus the creation of our name. Student learning can benefit by touching upon three areas.
1. We haves students who learn things visually.
2. Other students audio-ably through presentations or lectures
3. Others learn by on hands or through physical interaction

Q: With the decrease attention span of generation z which includes camera angles that may last 2-3 sec. for TV and movies; how does your program address each of these individual learning techniques?
Some of our content is provided by the student themselves. The youth today are avid You Tube or Facebook consumers. They come across a wide spectrum of videos. Many of these videos can teach a subject related in class. Through search engine optimization data we can collect vides that get the high hits and gleam current trends. We can siphon off some of the relevant content and implement them into our lessons plans.
It adds variety in the lesson plan and the students can approach and broaden their perspective on a topic from a supposedly unrelated video and then relate the two.
Here is an example of visual education: There is a popular YouTube video touches upon a girl being bullied at school. A guy took a snapshot of her and posted it to students devices and included mocking comments. Other students added their own mockery throughout the day. The older brother, who has in the past has also done a similar type of bullying, can’t figure out why his younger sister is so depressed. He is hurt on his sister’s behalf. Suddenly bullying becomes personal as it is his sister who is getting hurt. The negative consequences of his past acts of bulling become personified.
There are some great examples of the audio or textual form of learning: Hillsdale College is famous for this providing multiple online classes on the constitution for free. People can sign up can watch a lecture about history or the constitution.
A separate university is giving lectures about copyright law. During those lectures pictures, diagrams and illustrations are provided to help inform the viewer.
With the proliferation on hand held devices, this is popular for the modern day student.
We provide web links to various media sources that are available through their online workbooks provided by EduTainment Inc. They help embellish the lecture experience by provided additions documentation on the topic being discussed in class. This is broadened by newscasts.
To break up a long lecture, the instructor might mix in a joke or a personal story. This helps make the data relevant to the listener. An alternative is to have the class break up into groups and brainstorm and collect a list in response to a specific question. Some material may also be available from web sites of professional story tellers and comedian.
An important component to learning is physical activity: One useful lesson might be lids on a bottle. This is especially beneficial for our younger students. We can break up the monzonite of a class by an active. For example let’s say we’re teaching cause and effect. What was created to address the problem of lids to bottles popping off? Contents of a bottle can be better secure with a lid that screws on. With several rotations being required to open the jar there is less chance the bottle being opened accidently. To illustrate we may have a mix of bottles distributed throughout the class. They try to open and close the different types of lids. The class can discuss the ridges inside the lid and how they work or even perhaps the position of where the mouth opening is for a drinking bottle or straw.

Q: What are some of the challenges of your services?
We seek to address the potential boredom of the students. There are multiple ways class members display boredom. One may simple zone out. Others maybe act out. For young students, they may not have the language skills to say they’re bored so they do something that might disrupt the class to provide their own stimulus.

Q: What do you recommend for teacher to counter such possibilities of boredom?
Find out what works and doesn’t work for your specific class.
Once I wanted to get the children to dress up to do a skit. They didn’t want to do it. It was uncomfortable for several members. Learning that, I found an alternative that was comfortable for all the class. It is very important for the teacher to keep track on the behavior of a class. Sometimes depending upon the type of activity it can turn a class into hyperactive rather than engaging them to incorporate the principles of the lessons.
Some of the activities they enjoy might be a reward to them when they successfully and attentively respond to the lessons that are not as popular.

Spelling divine:

Good: divine

We’ll see if the following ideas will help us remember that divine has two Is. One is that when we are Die some of up look to the Divine four the possibility of eternal life after death. Or our eyes look up to the divine for direction in our lives and there are two Is eyes. And visually the dots of the Is can look like eyes.

Writing for film:

I attended a great writing symposium. It is called Life the Universe and Everything last year. Here are some notes on writing for film.

– YouTube: Flight from shadow, check it out.
– There’s an entire under culture of moviemaking create relationships. As you might be the scriptwriter for an independent film.
– Meet and associate with people in the industry.
– The Facebook groups of moviemakers.
– Write a lot of scripts in
– Contact your producer friends about every six months. Tell them at your current project, and then sign off, don’t bother them. Otherwise.
– Keep me in your contacts in an innocent producer of a certain script. Let them know you something that might feel the need
– Independent films are the source of original scripts.
– To break into Hollywood you need to be in California.
– Book: Rebel without a crew.
– Scripts needs to be read through.
– Table read is we have multiple friends, reading to the script with different parts in these be read out loud to find the problems.
– You need to learn how to write faster. Three years, maybe for the first script, but the wage ones that follows need much faster.
– Learn to be good and get out of your own way.
– Does your film convey the concept it was intended for?

Tax deed advice:

In 2013, I attended a workshop on different types of business ventures. Here are some of the things I learned about tax deeds as a business venture.

There are risks to keep in mind when involved with tax deeds. When it comes to costs, Bid to value ratio 10% worth of properties is suggested. Also, existing fees not removed in FC (HRA fees, city fee.

Do a title search: in county property records. . They are the most accurate and most detailed. Some properties have a complicated history (from owner to owner). See if the property you want is rural land or has a building on it. Also watch out for useless land or overpriced land

Pay attention to the age of properties -1980s and 1990.s this would be a good age range to shoot for. You will want to check the yard. Has the property been loved and maintained or neglected. Also see if the houses are roomy between each other. Look for neighborhoods that are well established.

If an IRS lien was placed against the property, simply give the responsible agency notice of ownership. They’ll have 60 days to decide whether or not to pursue the lien. If they do, the investor will be reimbursed for the purchase.

Qualified sale: arm’s length, transactions of more than one party-done through a bank etc. paid full value of the property.

Quiet title action is when you change from title deed to a warranty deed if you want you the property. Do quiet title action. It might take 6 mo. cost $600-$1000. With a warranty deed, it should be able to get insurance.

Tax deed: owner gets full ownership rights. It is important to read up on foreclosure laws from the state you buy deed from. Variance may allow for certain things to survive foreclosure process.

I heard a wonderful example of how a child came to understand repentance. My sister sent this to me as an email. I want to touch upon using simple language and imagery to teach important principles to young children. I hope these two examples can be of use to youth ministries, family devotional, family causeless and family home evenings.

Example one: Wiping sins away:
A dad is in a car with his child. It is raining.
The child said that the rain is like sin and the wipers are like repentance to wipe the sin away.
What a very wonderful and simple concept yet it defines precisely the usefulness of repentance. And for added learning, we might discuss with the child how our vision is improved in looking at the road because repentance / the wipers have wiped away the distractions of sin.

Example two: Pounding of a heart:
Once an adult touch the front of a child to feel their heart beat. “What is that? The adult asked.
“It’s God knocking,” the child answered.
Some teacher had compared their importance of God in our lives to the pounding of the heart. It was given in simple language but yet made a significant impact on the child’s perceptions

Example three: Jelly bread on the floor:
Sometimes I heard the example of the importance of Chasity being compared to a piece of bread with jelly on it. If someone drops it on the ground the direct and curd gets on the jelly bread and who wants to eat it after it is messed up. Some have compared that to not being chase and our jelly gets messed up and we can be less attractive to someone who might want a marriage with a chase person.

Example four: A storm before the rain bow:
A child may get discouraged about a certain trail they are having. Ask them about how much they like rainbows. Children usually love rain bows.
A parent could point out that we must endure a rain storm before we can see a rain bow. Sometimes we must face challenges to appreciate when we have blessings.

Writing children’s books:

Last year, I attended a great writing symposium. It is called Life the Universe and Everything last year. Here are some notes on writing children’s books.

– Picture books are an art form. Not for preschool.
– Not every picture book is for children. A couple is for adults.
– Beginning reader: readers more willing to see elephants and pics
– Again chapter books: Magic tree house second and third graders.
– Middle grade: 4 to 6 grade character is 10 to 13 years old.
– Middle grade 5 to a grade, more mature.
– YA: 15 to 20 age group. These have subject matter and age of the protagonist to match this group.
– Picture book: children like repetition of words. They don’t know the worst first couple of times but feel accomplishment when able to know the word. The fifth time on page 5.
– Make the book entertaining for both child and the adults meeting.
– One way to entertain adults is to put adult humor in the art.
– Picture books are a big story in fewer words needs to use fewer words, but not lose the concept of the story.
– If not well written than the gatekeepers won’t buy the book. In the book the child is assaulted own problem.
– Smart fiction is a story that pulls kids in but has enough character and plot development to entertain adults.
– What you need to do to ramp up or rent down on children’s books: eight. You don’t have to write down the kids B: need to have something happen right away. C: pump up the humor and action. D: don’t give unimportant information. For example, don’t describe the carpet.
– Short, quick text for picture books get the pages moving tone down the romance and middle grade message should be part of the fabric of the story.
– Don’t use humor, when you’re trying to build tension.
– There will always be a market for nonfiction books, especially in the Bible belt.
– Boys love how to nonfiction, such as building tanks building ships, etc. whatever you decide to write, write it well.
– Write books about space.
– Kids taste was buried as adult interests.
– Promotion can be through school assemblies, book signings, library events and social media.
– Old ladies at church by books for Jen kids.
– Majority of picture book and middle grade books are still hard copy.
– Teach kids to love reading my having books at different points of the house.
