Support reenactments and pageants as opportunities present:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I had the chance to attend an reenactment of the Sermon on the Mount today.

Loved it!

I was able to set at the feet of a man who quotes large expanses of scriptures whereby I was able to imagine myself as one of the people at the Mount of Olives. The actor did a great job of voice modulation and body language.

It makes me remember how much I’ve enjoyed attending various pageants or plays etc. that reenact history and often makes it personal for me.

My invitation is for us to see out these opportunities. As the 4th of July approaches we should be having a slew of them occurring. A lot of talented people practice to make such events meaningful and usually very worth attending.

Spelling prepositional:

Bad: prepitional
Good: prepositional

Here is a way to remember the spelling of this word. Often the reasons authors try to cut down on prepositional phrases is because they can make a sentence wordy. Often prepositional phrases are unnecessarily. Because of their position in a sentence, I can remember prePOSITIONal phrase.

Getting crying right:

Here are more notes on a great panel at Life the Universe and Everything SF/F symposium. The topic is on ‘Getting Crying Right’.

– Sometimes criminals break the law, not because of their past, but because they want to. Human motivation is often prompted by a salad, a good idea at the time.
– Criminals will conduct crime is a give them what they want. For example, a man may have a knife at a women’s throat, threatening her life because she dared to snitch against the group that he is a member of
– Criminals may use bad behavior to become the topic of conversation. One boy displays nude front of a whole bunch of other children, and so get attention or did it more and more because he got what he wanted attention.
– Criminals get created when they lose control of their life, such as in drug addiction. When lawyers become involved, they get connected in 2% of people’s lives when they are at their lowest point.
– A prosecutor determines what type of crime has happened
– A public attorney cost of crime.
– Justice needs mercy.

Steps to get your bike road ready:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are some things to look for, when getting your bike ready for the road.

– Clean your bike. Certain parts of the bike can’t be cleaned too thoroughly (like chain or chain ring need to keep lubricant) A microfiber towel and a nonabrasive cleaner. For lubrication grease may be better than oil as it usually last longer. Apply to all moving parts but avoid rims and brake pads. When lubricating the chain do so while slowly turning the pedals to get an even layer.
– Break: make sure they work. Grip right break rock your the bike forward and backward. If you hear a knocking it may need to be tightened Inspect your breaks. See if your pads are wearing evenly. Levers: both front and back need to be check. Cables: if cables are loose, you will need to tighten them from lever to brake.
– Tire pressure should be written somewhere on the tire and a tire gage can tell you if it matches. Let it sit to see if there are any leaks. Tires should be replaced regularly. Look for rubbing against the bike. See if they’re allied/straight. You can do this by resting the bike upside down to rest on the seat and handle bars. Turn the wheels while standing behind the back wheel. See if they spin straight. You can also check for loose spokes and you can see if the wheel is warped. Check your tires: by rubbing your finger along the tire, you can feel any cracking or splitting. Check the spokes for equal tension and not loose.
– Check the drive train. You can do this while your bike is still upside down from chain to wheels. Test each of the gears as your turn the peddle. While you’re doing that you can check for any missing teeth on the chain. Check for dents on the rim. Check bolts and feel for loose parts.
– Check your cables. Look for dirt plus wear and tear. If you see wear and tear or they are loose, you may need them to be replaced by a bike professional. Listen for any unusual noises.

The power of the Book Mormon evidence:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I recently attended a Book of Mormon evidence conference. I listened to a number of panels that gave archaeological evidence of where certain things could have occurred in Northern America that matched the Book of Mormon. It was a great conference. Today’s topic is the power of the book Mormon evidence

Book of Mormon evidence is important for the following reasons:

1. Authority of God’s work: Jews are to be baptized in flowing water, there is floating water and no, the United States.
Blood evidence exists in the Native Americans.
Some scholars may be resting the Scriptures to support their theories. Resting in the dictionary can mean twisted: look at

2. The book of Mormon is nonfiction:

3. The book morning is a living history: if it speaks of horses, swords and elephants, then geography must support that information
4. It can be missionary tool: the heartland model answers questions. Now we have tangible witnesses combined with faith of the book Mormon
5. It can be used to defend the gospel:

Spelling infinite:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Bad: infinate
Good: infinite

I keep wanting to spell this an a. The number of stars is infinite. Stars as in plural stars and the dot on the top of the ‘i’ could represent a star. Two stars indicate more than one and thus infinite. We’ll see if that works.

Editing:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are more notes on a great panel at Life the Universe and Everything SF/F symposium. The topic is on editing.

– Here are the levels of editing:
– 1. Content editing to check how the story flows with motivations. The big picture plot holes etc.
– 2. Cop/lines editing. This is where you start looking for spelling, grammar, etc.
– 3. Proofreading.
– 4. Galleys
– 5.Page proof
– 6. Title read this includes the catching design, appearance and titles, etc.
– What makes a good editor? Someone who reads and is familiar with the genre that you write. You need to find someone against the idea of your story, and use author. That means you don’t get a mystery editor to look at a fantasy book.
– Where do you need to get an editor? It’s been a lot of rejections, the book need work. Some people will send the first 10 pages to two different editors and see how they like their work. Authors will sometimes also been the first three chapters professionally edited so that when they send them to the 20 agents. They are presented well. Take advantage of critique group reviews. We need also include the content editing, and the line editing the importance of content editing is emphasized when it has not done and you spend a lot of money having parts of the book line edited and those pages have to be taken out, you wasted good money.
– You need to find people that are not necessarily friends or family members at your work they may be too close to it to give you an honest appraisal. On your beta readers. You may even just have them marked the pages with 🙂 they like it? They are confused. When you get suggestions on how to change your writing, you need to have your gut. Make the final decision of accepting or rejecting a recommendation. Another way you can determine if you’re ready for an editor is if you are now open-minded enough to have a story fixed and improved to go to the next level of your writing
– Editing is an editor’s job. The writers did all the praise and editors get all the blame. Editors have noticed that the bigger the name, the easier it is to work with them. And author, needs to be ready to accept improvements of the books they’ve written when author gets comments, they should ask, why does the editor feel this way. The probably point out may not be what they see, but will be a symptom of a problem that exists elsewhere in the story. For example, if a certain part of the book is not clear that might actually mean that book section. These gas and foreshadowing to repair the reader for that scene
– Book 1 of a series needs to be a standalone with the potential of being a series. A writer is not a good source of knowing when the book is well edited. Your writing needs to stand by itself as a testimony of your skill. The complaints of a reader or editor cannot be answered. In book 2
– many people discourage having a book open with the bunch description.
– Many people like of story that opens up with action.
– The first page needs to have a strong voice.
