Goal Setting:

At toastmasters one evening, a member gave a presentation on goal setting. Here are some of my notes:

– Set a clear goal.
– Set of land that is realistic.
– Coordinate with friends of the minor goals and achieve the main goal.
– Take action. If you don’t actually do the action, there is no result.
– He told how he accomplished an important goal in his life. The goal of becoming a pilot required achieving smaller goals to reach the main goal. Many of his peers never became pilots because they didn’t follow through with the small goals first to reach the final goal.

Chiasmum and the heartland:

I recently attended a Book of Mormon evidence conference. I listened to a number of panels that gave archaeological evidence of where certain things could have occurred in Northern America that matched the Book of Mormon. It was a great conference. Today’s topic is on the Heartland where many people feel the Neiphi lived in North America.

– Occam Razor: when looking among conflict in theories. Follow the one that has to rely upon the least assumptions.
– The book of Mormon is for both Jewish and Christian.
– The book of Mormon makes the following covenant: if we live the 10 Commandments and serve the God of this land, he will give us the blessings of liberty prosperity and protection.
– More evidence validating that the heartland contains descendants of Israel. A book by aimberli Nelson called A Relic, talks about this explorer meeting an Indian tribe and seeing how reverently they treated an object for the ceremonies. He got permission to open it and inside the container was written in a language close to Hebrew.

Keeping Track of Events:

As a storyteller, you sometimes you have the opportunity or the challenge to tell the same set of stories to multiple audiences/classes in quick succession. I had that chance when I was teaching the difference between democracy and a Republic to multiple classes and student groups at the patriot camp this year.
Each class had the same information repeated from class to class. The challenge of this, of course, is that you tell your stories two, three or four times, it is very easy to lose track of what stories you’ve told to which group of kids. Sometimes that can hinder a performance because you don’t want to repeat a story in fear that you have very told up for this particular class. In hindsight, I now have a solution for such forgetfulness.
My recommendation is to have some kind visual objects that are nearby. One object might be a pair of glasses to represent Ben Franklin’s quote that ‘democracy is like having two wolves and a sheep discussing what will be for dinner.’ I might have a toy of a wolf that is assigned to my Cry Wolf story that was part of my set. Finally, a third object might be a skirt gun that can be related to a posse of cowboys chasing after a bank robber.
As I tell each specific story. I move that object from my right to my left. It’s an easy way to keep track without he trying to remember things. Then I don’t have to remember if and tell the same story twice in the same class. At the conclusion of that particular performance, I move all my visual cues to right to. They are ready and imposition for the next telling on the next class. You want reminders that will not add more stress to you as a reformer. We try to remember all the proper details of the story were telling.

What techniques do you like to use to make sure that you remember things in proper sequence. In doing the performance? Please feel free to share you recommendations in the comment section this blog. Thank you.

Difference between bolder and boulder:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

This one is silly but we’ll see if it helps me remember the difference between these two words.

Bolder is to be very outgoing.
Boulder is a big stone.
Maybe this will help me remember. When you toss a boUlder into soft dirt the weight can presses the rock deep into the sand thus making a crater or U shape in the ground. That might remind me that boUlder.

A writer’s work space:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are more notes on a great panel at Life the Universe and Everything SF/F symposium. The topic is on a writer’s work space.

– A bad work space can influence your health. So you want to ensure that you workspace is pleasant and comfortable. That means you need to have a good share and good environment to make your work comfortable. That might include a big monitor. One author has a whiteboard. Sheet metal on another wall with magnets and a third wall/board to hold items.
– A physical space does affect us. Having a physical space that you create more successfully. If you don’t have a specific workplace. You could even have a file locks and could use a section of your home as your workplace. Just don’t let your workplace interfere with your work as a writer. For example, if you have piles of manuscripts at your desk starts crying you in a good influence your writing mood. You might want to select a day that you can clean your office to help maintain a clutter of us environment.
– If you have a tendency to hoard, then is a good idea to get rid of five things the office every time the exit. If your life feels consistently out of sorts, it might be because you’re not a cop shooting of the things we to do. That’s what it might be important to do the dishes or to do something that gives you a sense of accomplishment so as not to impede your creativity.
– Some of us have even invested in May service. It’s not that expensive.
– Some authors will take advantage of non-writing time to plot and plan the next day’s work. The night before, you might consider plotting out what to write following day. Many people will take advantage of their commute to work by turning off the radio and still not driving time to plot or to think about the story.
– As you sit down at your desk, you would want to know what you want to write. Entering your work space can be the beginning of repairing you mentally to write. If necessary, you might need another tool like wearing a hat or put in some object in front of you that represents the starting process of writing. Gives you have stress in the work area. It can implead your creativity and you’ll need to address that stress so that your workspace is not contributed to negative emotion.
– Some authors will create some form of ritual that will prepare them for their writing time, such as playing a certain song or circling around three times
– Some authors to give themselves a sense of accomplishment will have a calendar by the workspace and they will write the number of words they rode on that day to show some form of success. Another source of inspired you to write might be the website writer die.com. This is a software/site that will give you alerts or will delete words, if you don’t write fast enough.
– When your life is full, it can in feed your creativity, so you may want to find ways that help with creativity. You can plot are doing mindless work such as doing the dishes. Or, many people can come up with an idea while the showering or taking a walk. If you take a shower, make sure that you concentrate upon the current story idea and coming up with a completely new project other authors. May simply lie down and while lying down, just think of the stories.
– Some authors will use words speech program to have the story read to them as that this on a new perspective to the story by hearing it out loud
– Sometimes it’s not the want to determine the investment for their office is a good idea. They will calculate the investment by how many books or dollar amounts from their book income would give them what they see
– Sometimes, family members may not understand the importance of writing time or writing space. May be you can help them understand by finding what is important to them in your barter with them with what they find important with what you find important. Often just tell them it’s important to you could be sufficient. Others will show the importance of their work by showing them a check from his cell.

Details of a Will:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I’ve been studying up on a will and here are a few things I’ve been learnng.
– Per Stirpes Property Disposal: If a will or trust specifies that an estate should be divided under a per stirpes directive it means that the will maker is specifying a certain hierarchy of division based on the relationships of individuals to the deceased. In a basic per stirpes division, property is doled out as follows:
– Per Capita Property Disposal: Per capita is a much simpler concept than per stirpes; this directive simply states that all members of a specific group will receive an equal share of the estate.
– You must expressly state that this document is your will
– List who inherits specific items;
– You must appoint an executor who will be in the execution of your will.
– Testamentary Trust Will A testamentary trust will sets up one or more trusts for the distribution of part or all of one’s estate at the time of death.
– A self-proving will, (or a self-proving affidavit attached to a will), must be notarized, and certifies that the witnesses and testator properly signed the will. This type of will makes it easy for the court to accept the document as the true will of the person who has died, serving as testimony, and avoids the delay and cost of locating witnesses at the time of probate.
– Living Will, A living will bears no relation to a conventional will and is not used to leave property at death. A living will is a document that allows you to state what type of medical treatment you do or do not wish to receive should you be too ill or injured to communicate your wishes. It may also be referred to as an advance directive or a declaration.

I listened to a number of panels that gave archaeological evidence of where certain things could have occurred in Northern America that matched the Book of Mormon. It was a great conference. Today’s topic is where Hagoth’s sailing route occurred.

Hagoth is an individual who took ships and people and traveled out of the country.

– The land of North America has changed. One example is the little ice age 1350 A.D. Scientists found residue of owls in areas where they don’t exist today.
– Heleman 3:41. Scientists can follow the old location of the Mississippi river that has since moved to find artifacts of previous civilizations.
– Heleman 3: talks about many waters. This could be the Great Lakes.
– Heleman 3:7 talks about fortified from the West. See even to the east. West. See when using interpretations of the Jewish language could be interpreted as a river.
– Alma 63:4 – 9, talks of 540 men with their families going north. Some archaeologists feel that this is going from Lake Michigan as the wish seeing.
– Tried in Micmac in northern United States and Canada has middle eastern DNA.

Colonoscopy Advice

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

A friend is having a procedure done and a friend gave some excellent advice to when you have to drink the horrible stuff to prepare you for the procedure. I thought I‘d share.

Use a (wide) straw to drink it. This way, it will go down faster/easier/over fewer taste buds. Also get it as cold as you possibly can before drinking it. This helps with the taste and the downing of it. Eat less even before you’re supposed to…less in, less (and more completely) out. You don’t want ANYthing left in there to possibly cover up a polyp or other problem…and finding anything like that is the whole point of the procedure.

Do you have advice on this topic? If so, please share in the comment section of this blog.

Bad: embellishes
Good: embellishes

My only bad part is the word bell. When you embellish someone’s positive traits you ring praises upon them, thus ring the bell.

Characterization 2:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are more notes on a great panel at Life the Universe and Everything SF/F symposium. The topic is on characterization.

– Details are what define the character. The better you understand your character the better you can present them to be successful in your book. You don’t have to provide extensive details.
– Characterization can be borrowed from the dungeon Masters, role players, game, as it has a lot of building character traits already defined. Character sheets help keep the game/plot moving along. Role-playing. You just have to construct upon your character and not the side characters
– You can speed the process of remembering detailed attributes of a character by quickly checking the character sheet. You would update the sheet as new information is gained. The document can act as your cheat sheet. It helps with maintaining continueality, keeps track of motivations, and acts as a roadmap to you don’t get lost. Some authors may send the character sheets took a continuity editor so they can keep an eye out for inconsistencies with the character sheet
– A character’s name is very important. You may want to look up the meaning of a character’s name to see if it matches with what the character is that you want to have defined. The character’s name is the most frequent noun used in the book, Dolores umbrage of Harry Potter has meaning. For example, Dolores means ‘mean’ in another language and matches well with the character in Harry Potter. Even minor characters should have a name.
– The website, baby names.com is a nexus source of seeing what names mean
– As you fill out your character sheet, you will want to consider what the character can add to the story and what do you want the character to accomplish in the story. You do want to avoid stereotypes. An example of an archetype is such terms as hero or villain. While a stereotype would be a cop from one of the southern states.
– Society means. Where do they align themselves? Back story will influence a character and what they do in a day job and they even influence the type of things they observe. For example, a carpenter may notice the workmanship of wood or businessman will notice attributes of a situation that is linked to think he or she is familiar with.
– Some authors will create a character grid to see the relationships between all the characters and story. It can also act as a quick reference. If you need look up the name of a minor character.
– You want to ask yourself what makes the character unique. This can even be displayed by how character dresses and stress can define what a character thinks of themselves. But a sloppy ornate? Mannerisms also add uniqueness to character, such as a limp or twitch. Another unique trait can be speech patterns in the words they choose. Some characters have such a unique way of talking fantasy. For example, yielding store wars) they really don’t need speech tags to know who is talking. When you are touching upon dialogue because, not use too much jargon.
– Characters are also defined upon personality. Are they smart or charming. An example of attitude might be this quote. ‘The weak, our meat while the strong to eat.’ What kind the character would say that phrase?
– Every character should have a weakness. Even Superman that this kryptonite.
– Conflicts in character arches are the internal conflicts and evolutions of the character throughout the story. Confluence can create motivations for the characters take action. And arch would be where character is being weak they show bravery and in the end they win.
– You will want to have a point in the story that you define the characters description begetting a description and other notes of the characters traits and passed or motivations in the note form can be referenced throughout the book. Every time there’s a change noted in the notes. Some writers will actually write the chapter synopsis at the end of each chapter. They kind of document what was done in that chapter, so that they can know where to go with. I have look to the entire book to financing in case anything reference later.
– This information is available on website Johnnyworthen.com.
