There are different times we may get criticism. We might be told at work how to do a better job or as a parent we may need to instruct a child to improve themselves in behavior or a task. I hope today’s theme can be of use to youth ministries, family devotionals, Sunday’s schools and family home evenings:

Object lesson: Different types of scrubbers, powdered cleansers, liquid soap, a wash rag etc. Collect different types of scrubbers from around the house. A dish rag with dish soap and warm/hot water can make a great way to scrub the dishes. A metallic scrubber with Ajax may help remove a burn spot outside of a pan. A scrub brush, water, a cleanser and a lot of elbow grease is great to scrub a floor.

Scribe brushes can be compared to giving criticism. How one tell another how to improve something should be catered to the person receiving criticism.

For a new speaker at toast masters, who gives a speech for the very first time, they are overcoming the fear of speaking in front of the public. Point out their successes. As the speaker gains confidence, their evaluates can begin to give suggestions for improvements as well as continue to provide recommendations for improvements.

A child learning a house hold chore for the first time can be taught that task by example and patients. Help the child accomplish the task. Have them practice in your presence and work together in the shared task. As the child learns to do the chore by themselves, point out their success and well as needs for improvements. Sometimes when one is taught why certain things are done in a certain way, that may convert them to why things may be done in a certain sequence and they may learn order and cause and effect.

With the family or class provide different types of criticism and compare them to the different types of scrubbers, and soaps. Each are specialized to achieve specific tasks. Talk how criticism can be done kindly and effectively and maybe things than can be done to avoid bad critique sessions.

You might be able to use the scrub brush in other areas other than in giving critiques, suggestions or criticisms.

This may be a way to remember this word. When you want to obliterate someone in a debate you do so by a superior argument. This can be achieved by studying a topic out. This means reading and studying about the topic. You become literate on the topic. Thus literate is part of the word obliterate.

Self-marketing and promotion:

I attended a great writing symposium. It is called Life the Universe and Everything last year. Here are some notes of self-marketing and promotion:

– When you present before an audience you want them to trust you.
– You don’t have to be good-looking to be trusted.
– You need to look and dress confidently.
– Percentages of first impression, 55% are what you look like. This includes part of the clothes, but also confidence and presentation even how you stand.
– Interact with you. Do I create a barrier because I’m not approachable? 38% is your voice/timber. The tone of your voice can be annoying.
– 7% is what I share with you.
– Be open faced. Eyebrows are raised. Look at each person in the audience for these two seconds. Voice: people want to hear a story from James Earl Jones
– Does the audience know the color of your eyes? Make eye contact.
– Be genuine warmth and sincere. Remove barriers – don’t be restricted behind a projector or table. Be among the audience.
– If you behind a lectern find ways to open yourself by voice or mannerisms to the audience.
– Open your body. Open your stance. Don’t fold your arms as it presents a closed position
– If I can’t stand for long time, said the middle of the room.
– Psychological wall: example of one quote I call you a genius, but I’m in the room.
– Gather humility for yourself. Assume everyone in the room is smarter than you. Speak as if you or all peers shared purpose.
– Humility is about them self-depreciation is about me. Message: keep calm. Don’t blink. Example Angels of Dr. Who don’t muddle up your message.
– The power of story: communication is a result of an understanding of the audience.
– Set the high-stakes know what your main goal is what your audience wants. Make your audience care about your presentation. Maybe even describe a life-changing event. What makes the audience care tell the story that shows the importance of your looking glass and some of the steering in
– How does the story you tell help your audience. They want to know how to help them.
– Find out the powerful message of your presentation, you need to make people remember you touch their lives.
– On panels using and open face and sure how you can help readers and fans. Get out of yourself mindset and concentrate upon the audience.
– Get people and staff to talk about themselves.
– Compliments: these sincere genuine and specific.
– Look at each person in the audience for these two seconds

A year ago I attended a workshop on different types of business ventures. Here are some of the things I learned about stocks.

Live trading:
– When people move from paper trades to live people get emotional.
– Look at the stock. When it is closed, takes out the emotion.
– Cash spread: takes two options. Spread the options and key. The difference.
– As long as stock stays in its trend we get paid.
– Not to be assigned the three down arrows.
– Use or trade with the profit.
– You think the stock will move in the correct direction, but you’re not positive.
– All stocks have a pattern because all our connections. Read and responded, charts the same way

Steps for trading
– Look for a stock with a pattern. Look for highs and lows. Lineup the dots of highs and lows.
– When the big boys/institutions get involved. It breaks the pattern of that stock.
– Tables go for six months and you use this length of time to see historical levels.
– We do the dots line them up and the predominant direction of dots set your majority of the pattern.
– Go a little lower than the lowest of the floor
– Options bar: top of board is when you sold the option bombed the bar when you buy the option.
– When you learn to fix a trade. You are no longer afraid of stock market.

Opening accounts:
– It is easier for people with money to make money because the already in the proper mindset
– The rich have learned to use the power of leverage.
– They use it in everyday situation and in the use of creation of wealth.
– Leverage 101: the most important use of leverage for the rich is the leverage of the own mind
– Leverage risk: Must have a solid business plan.

Thinking outside the box:

Today’s theme is on ingenuity. I hope today’s topic can be of use to youth ministries, family devotionals, Sunday school and family home evenings.

Object lesson: Find a collection of different types of balls such as marbles, a stress ball, beach ball, sitting ball or exercise ball, puzzle ball and any other device in a ball form. Discuss the capabilities of each ball. In the past we might think that a ball is only for sports. But as people become creative they think of additional ways of how balls can be used ranging from a stress ball to a disco ball that reflects colored lights on a dance floor.

Just as a ball being used in various ways can server multiple purposes so our imagination can come up with new ways to do things. For example
1. Someone came up with the idea that there are holes be poked in the sides of a tin foil box to crate flaps to keep the tin foil inside the box.
2. Another person came up with the idea that the lid of a pitcher when allied with the handle also has the opening on the opposite side so the liquid to be poured out. When you twist in into alignment with the handle of the pitcher you can pour the drink. When it is not aligned the hole is closed and the liquid is kept inside.
3. Don’t have a knife but you need to cut the tape of a big box so you can make it flat to recycle it? Use a key to act as a kind of saw to cut through the tape and you can accomplish your goal.
Invite the family or class members to pay attention to things around them. Evaluate why things are designed as they are. Have people start creating a journal of observations to see how others have been creative. Encourage everyone to always keep an open mind to how something can be done. Many time things can be done in more than one way and often more effectively. Each of us can learn how to do things effectively with the use of our imaginations.

This is a hard one. Lets see if this works. When we want to share information to manipulate an audience. We PROvide PAGes of information AND follow up by Action by compassing the streets or waving signs to persuade people.

Story Telling at School Literacy Night:

I had the opportunity to tell a couple of stories at a school Literacy night. My audience ranged from below elementary, elementary kids to their parents.

I had great audience participation.

Things that worked well during my performance:
1. Make eye contact with specific people throughout the audience through the story telling.
2. Have some repeat phrases and actions in the story for the kids to expect and repeat
3. Have some aspects of the story that will appeal to the adult sense of humor and to the kids sense of humor
4. Modulate my voice help add emotion of the characters.
5. Body language and hand motion to help with the telling of the story.
6. Obtain strong audience participation by having them echo back various aspects of the story.
7. Be flexible to change 2 10 min stories to 1 13 min and 4 min story.
8. Ask questions of the audience to help them be a part of the story
9. Since I’m a writer one of the stories was never heard of before by child or parent
10. Telling a rarely known story of Ben Franklin seemed well received as well.
11. Turn off cell phone to prevent any interruption.
12. Audio record performances to listen and learn what I could do better.
13. Weeks of prior practice gave me strong preparation prior to the performances.
14. Asked teacher for a review.

Things to work on:
1. Careful of ear rings that hook on scarf.
2. Should have brought some business cards to leave for possible pickup.
3. Should have brought my book stand to show parents I’ve written books and flyers
4. Have my bio as a handout for teacher that doesn’t bring the one I emailed to her earlier.
5. Be ready to be interrupted by loud speaker announcements
6. Be ready with my own water in case I need it.
7. Still susceptible to once losing track of a story due to a bell rings.
8. I smiled some, but smile more throughout my performances.
9. Have list of some of my books in my story teller bio.

I was glad for the experience. The children and parents participated in doing the fiddle to Beethoven 5th. There were smiles from the parents and great activity from the children.

A year ago I attended a workshop on business. Here are some of the things I learned about law suite entity.

– You want to get a family living partnership. IRS section 704.
– Your partner does not have to be human, so it can include a living trust that can be a partner.
– Set up family limited partnership, and even include your checking/savings account. Also put in your bonds business as well as all other assets.
– Never owned investments, real estate in your own name LG are liable to anything that happens on that land.
– Put all assets under the family limited partnership.
– If the person suing you wins, they get zero of your assets zero of your income and they end up having to pay the taxes of the earnings that they never got see ruling 77 – 137
– Here are the three forms you to fill out to protect yourself in all respects.
– Family limited partnership: protection against lawsuits.
– Living trust: protection against probates.
– C Corporation: provides lower income taxes
– Book: the total asset protection handbook.
