Over a year ago, I attended a seminar on business and one of the topics was on marketing, sales and employees

– You make a bold promise and then deliver it
– Marketing is the promised benefits at your customer gets by coming to your business.
– It’s not the product that attaches the customer to your business; its how you make them feel. How did they hear about you? Who are they? You need to be familiar with your customers. What do your customers want? What do you want? Is there a match between you and them?
– When people think of your business, what comes to their mind? Do you have a purple cow? What is unique about what you do? What do your customers say about you? What do people that refer your business say about you? How do you grow your most profitable customers?

Sales:
– When you meet a new customer, you need to discover what they want and how you can accomplish their desires.
– Your new customer process is the single most powerful driving force for growth.

People:
– For your employees, you need to have the right people in the right roles with the right attitude with the right fit, with the right structure and the right reward.
– The biggest difference between an average business and a great business is the motivation of his people. They’re engaged, inspired and involved with their work.

Good: incoherent

Well if I would pronounce it correctly in-CO-herent I might do a better job on spelling.

Small press of Utah County:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

It was another great year at Life the Universe and Everything. These are the notes I took from the panel on dark humor.

– There are two local small press publications in Utah County. At BYU. There is the leading-edge. It’s a semiprofessional market cell of the office of modesty. The second publication is warp, and weave Journal. It’s produced at Utah Valley State College. It is still amateur in that doesn’t pay
– The leading-edge has had several decades to develop a readership and exposure. So 95% of the submissions, from outside the Utah Valley.
– Warp and weave has most of the submissions coming from Utah Valley campus or Orem high school. Since a teacher at Orem high used to be a staff member of the Journal. He has become a good source of submissions. There have been some very talented high school students that have had their material close to the magazine.
– The virtue of a small press publication over the more advanced high print publications is these magazines can take advantage of new ideas and respond to them in a more quick manner. In the digital age, audio books and become more in demand. Small press is an opportunity for new authors to experience what it feels like to be an author. There is one high school student that had assigning party, and family members came to support that author, and was a wonderful experience for them to have.
– Both magazines appreciate community support and support from their respective universities.

Over a year ago, I attended a seminar on business and one of the topics was organization.

– People and organizations grow by releasing greater energy in themselves, improving the knowledge, acquiring new skills, changing their attitude, and committing themselves to the values and a higher purpose.
– be organized, involves being highly creative.
– Creativity is combining the elements together to get generate growth in the results
– Without organization, the creative energy of the parts of your life and business will never be realized.
– Three building blocks of organization:
– 1. Positions: positions are grouped into roles, duties, responsibilities.
– 2. Activities: hundreds of individuals at this are linked together to do more major and minor productive activities: production, cost control, cells, marketing, assisting, and service
– 3. Systems: Is the mechanism which an organization uses to link activities with each other and make activities with positions

– Organization is the least appreciated and least understood component to doubling net profit
– Organization and systems contain the deepest secrets and greatest unutilized potential for growth in your business.
– Organization and systems possess an amazing power. For ease of workflow and growth.
– Systems aren’t dead or mechanical devices they derive their power directly from business values, such as: orderliness, punctuality, coronation, excellence, ethical value.
– The two sources of any businesses energy, growth and creativity doesn’t lie in the basic building block, but the real energy is generated by the relationships between different elements of business.
– The real power of organization systems arises from his capacity for can coordination and integration of people, activities and systems.
– Freedom musician, so ingredient for growth.
– The individuals grow only in freedom, but the business is based on order, predictability and stability.
– Freedom without organization and discipline is chaos.
– The ultimate is a balance between freedom, responsibility and discipline.
– Establish clear job descriptions, expectations and guidelines for every position and create a system whereby, responsibilities and authority on each position or clear to everyone in your business. This means that everyone knows what everyone else is doing.
– You staff needs to analyze the effectiveness of each building block. A building block can be a slot of time where you preform specific tasks for high productivity.
– Analyze effectiveness of each role in your practice.
– Marketing – referral system – case
– presentation – delivery of service – staff
– engagement – customer response

I recently attended a Book of Mormon evidence conference. I listened to a number of panels that gave archeological evidence of where certain things could have occurred in Northern America that matched the Book of Mormon. It was a great conference. I’m sharing my notes in my Teaching Embellishments blog as it’s a great topic. This panel discussed where the theory of that the BofM occurred in South America. This presentation was offered by Johnson, Novell

– The reason why people think that the book of Mormon events occurred in South America, known asoamerica, was from three articles were written by an unknown author that were printed in the times and seasons (Navoo period of LDS church history) that indicated that the book of Mormon events occurred in South America.. This lecture presented who could be the author of those three articles. People assume that the articles were accurate, because Joseph Smith was acting editor.
– When you want to solve a mystery, you want to seek out three answers.
– What was the means?
– What was the opportunity?
– What was the motive?
– DC 125:3 built upon a city called Zarahemla. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/125?lang=eng
– In March 1841, was the first article which indicated that the book of Mormon was in South America. Some historians believe it was written by Benjamin Winchester. Who always favored the BofM events occurring in South America
– On December 15, the first and second article was published at the same time as an ad selling Ben Winchester’s book.
– Opportunity: William Smith younger brother of Joseph Smith, two brothers, it didn’t get along with Joseph was the acting editor

Five steps for Federalism:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Last week I attended a political meeting where Mr. Connor Boyak talked about the five steps for federalism. Any inaccuracies in my notes are my fault. I think I need to learn how to take shorthand.
Connor Boyak is from the Libertus Institute. It is a Utah this organization that monitors Utah politics. The website is tinyurl.com. Federalism is when political parties create an alliance.
1. Financial independence:
Utah spent 4.4 billion of federal money. After all the money the student from the federal government conditions are attached. The more we use the less we have of self-government. He’s observed that 95% of the information shared by the media is incorrect. Media will usually misquote or miscue information about a bill. They have their own agenda and controversy stimulates more sales for the media.
Obama’s ‘race to the top’ was an opportunity for states to compete for federal money. But noted to be in the running those days had to adopt common core. The Utah State Board rushed common core through without input from school boards or teachers, parents, etc. Normally, when something is to be passed, this should be 30 days for public review. That condition was not met A lawsuit is now being set against education department for not following proper procedure.
2. Develop a political spine:
Article four of the Constitution means that the government needs the particularity in order to conduct a search. The Utah contestant for Miss America, the video when she felt she was molested by the NSA on a flight from Utah. They got a lot of views. Because of her experience and the mistreatment by the NSA, the state of Texas started passing a law that the NSA could not do the type of body searches that was done to the contestant. As the bill was going through the Texas system, the NSA sent a private letter to certain legislators that said that the bill is creating emergency situation whereby the NSA would need to shut down all flights to and from Texas. Texas folded under the pressure.
Usually when bills are introduced to the legislature, those bills will often have notes attached to the bills from attorneys giving feedback on the constitutionality of those bills. Sometimes attorneys when they present notes and feedback on different bills may intentionally miss guide the legislators. One example, an attorney quoted part of the Constitution. He said that a certain bill was not constitutional. He then quoted the constitution to support his claim in his note to the legislature. However when he quoted the constitution he put in “…” for part of the quote. The attorney took out the words of the constitution that contained the words where a state could do something that didn’t conflict with the constitution.
3. Teamwork:
When you have a chance look at the history document resolution of Virginia and Kentucky. This is an example of teamwork. Another example of teamwork is that with so many states passing marijuana in their individual states the federal government was getting more and more pressure not to enforce the law at the federal level.
Another example is that
4. Eternal diligence:
One time Utah and other states were against the real ID law, but were enacted later when states were not as diligent on their defenses.
5. Accountability:
Even though Congress had 11% popularity rating, 96.4 of the same people were reelected. We often add like having a handout and cleaning to have our rights and we need to insist they have a right
Clean the inner vessel:
The way we protect our liberty is to concentrate on what happens in the state and local level, not the federal. This would mean to decentralize the federal government. We need to allow individuals, their individual freedoms, even if we object those freedoms. Many Utah citizens want the government to control their neighbors’ behavior. In the past conservatives use the government to support their ideals on marriage. Now is the pendulum swings back that same government is forced to set opposite opinion.
Federalism is not the end goal is the process.

Mnemonics used to remember the events in the story:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Sometimes when you have a lot of information to remember when telling a story, I find mnemonics to be a useful tool to remember events in sequence. I recently wrote a children’s book titled hopscotch to ten wonders of the world. In this story I have children visiting the seven man-made wonders of the world, but in previous drafts I had the locations in a random sequence. In my updated version I rearrange the sequence the numbers could give me a visual image of each location. As a result my presentation story flows more smoothly

1. Machu Picchu, is memorized.
2. The number two kind of looks like elephant, which leads me to the Taj Mahal, India.
3. Can look like repelling off steep sandstone cliffs, which leads me to the building of Petra Jordan.
4. Might be seen. Scaffolding used in the construction of a wall with leads me to The Great Wall of China.
5. The half circle on the number could be seen as part of the time which leads us to Chichen Itza.
6. Six reminds me of circling slide which leads me to The Coliseum of Rome Italy.
7. Could be connected to the list, but 98 foot statue in Visio to honor Christ the Redeemer.

Now you need to do is practice the story.

If you have an example of mnemonics is helped you a specific task, please feel free to share it in the comment section this.

Dark Humor:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

It was another great year at Life the Universe and Everything. These are the notes I took from the panel on dark humor.

– Dark humor can help a reader lighten their own tension in a story.
– Tragic city is in close up while comedy is a distant view.
– Dark humor touches upon sensitive and difficult topics. Some examples are modest proposal by Jonathan Smith, catch 22, Nick Haley, Chuck Punnock’s fight club, grim dark, and Trainspotting. Dark humor is important for the subject matter is so hard that the only way to combat against the extreme of it is to humor. It can address and bring to light social issues. One example is the herald and mod move. Another move is Heathers.
– It’s important to remember that you cannot be funny to everybody. Ever since 9/11, no movie studio is willing to depict a movie with a plane crash in it, even if it’s in another country.
– Jim butchers Harry Dresden books are good example of humor, that is more in the presentation of the story rather than a punchline.
– Dark humor can also be provided by the antics of the sidekick. A character can see and say things as they are. Readers can become interested in characters because of how they combat the challenges they face.
– When doing dark humor, you need to know what is a sensitive subject to you as an author. For one panelist, it was no jokes of the military. For him, that was to blue as a topic fiction should challenge us. Comedy is always character driven. Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett are two authors that do well on dark humor.
– Dark humor can relieve the tension of an intense scene.
