Alien Technology:

Here are some notes on a great panel at Life the Universe and Everything SF/F symposium. The topic is on alien technology

– Technology can give information about the aliens by what type technology they use.
– Technology is created to solve a particular problem or limitation.
– Technology is also created by the available resources of that planet. For example, it is not an abundance of water, then culture might use windmills as a power source.
– Alien weapons will look somewhat similar, no matter what culture it is. For example when shooting something then it will look like a form of gun.
– Technology is created to make life easier. We would need to have our technology follow the logic that we are familiar with. In fact, we would take for granted what we can due as we’ve grown up with it. An example of this is if the species communicate with pheromones that would include influence the culture and challenges for that culture.
– Technology can be created to achieve a task or goal or to compensate for a scarce resource. One example is that the ballpoint pen was created by NASA to build to write upside down in space. Suggested book fire upon the deep

Second Amendment:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

A number of months ago I attended a political meeting that talked about the importance of the Second Amendment. This is some of the notes I took during the presentation. Some of these are references to court debates that made influences upon gun rights. Any incoherent areas of my notes are due to my bad note taking.

– The Second Amendment is not just about a regular militia. We have individual right to bear arms.
– Car to DC versus Heller year 2008.
– Article 1 section 1. It talks about people defending themselves. I don’t recall if this is United States Constitution or the Utah Constitution.
– Book: that every man may be armed.
– Related book to be a man might of military.
– Utah law: to carry guns at schools and government sites. Lawyers found not been obeyed, made objection to law not being followed.
– There are 72 to 80 million gun owners with 300 million guns.
– McDonald versus Chicago: federal and state can’t prohibit gun rights.
– Moree versus medgin = can carry
– Palmer versus District of Washington, and Tyler versus Hillsdale, Sheriff Department.

Spelling vacuum:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Good: vacuum
Bad: vaccume

I still have a problem with this word. One way to remember. You vacuum to get the dirt out from under the surface of the carpet. Want to do a good job, do it twice. So U twice, means vacuum twice Under the carpet twice. VacUUm.

I keep putting an e at the end. It’s the vacuum that is doing the work, no me. So don’t add the mE. That one is stretching it a little until I can come up with a better idea.

I would be happy to hear a better way to know how to remember the spelling on this if you have a suggestion.

Middle Grade and Picture Book Fiction:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are some notes on a great panel at Life the Universe and Everything SF/F symposium. The topic is on Middle grade fiction and picture books.

– Think of the cool factor and write about it. Middle grade readers like silly humor. Fantasy is very popular in middle grade fiction. Keep in mind that kids are excited about the world around them and that they see the world, filled with wonder. If you can capture that wonder that will be great. Middle grade fiction is in very high demand. Some authors may not be able to write in middle grade or why a voice. Middle grade authors are often people who remember there elementary years
– A popular middle grade author is Chuck Coverage
– Middle grade books like action and adventure. Check out the book called dog vomit. Other authors, such as Jessica George and Percy Jackson, Chronicles of Narnia and Brandon Mall, another popular book is Jennifer Nelson of a book called the faults prints.
– Grandparents often the buyers of middle grade for their grand kids. They are the gatekeepers
– Picture books are usually for the age under seven, while early reader is about the length of 70 8K words. For example, Magic School Bus. In order for chapter books to be successful, they have to publish at a high volume. There’s a lot of repetition in the chapter book. The length of a chapter book is about 10K. Nothing is to say to a child

Basic principles of emergencies:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I attended an emergency conference with some good information. Here are some ideas about emergency preparedness.

– Bad things happen to good people.
– Preparation makes the difference between and adventure or life threatening disaster. For example, always have winter clothing in your vehicle. If you live in Montana because a bad storm can hit even in
– Prepare for the worst and hope – pray – work with the best. You need to practice changing a tire. Someone had a tire underneath a bedrock got caught with a flat and found he didn’t have the key to unlock the tire to get access to it. Had the guy practiced he wouldn’t know about the key and had one.
– Learn the skills you can border your skills against others, and that you can become a value to the community. Know how to cook from scratch, or have security training or no about herbs. Another way is to have extra food in your food supply. A good source of the little extras is that when you visit a hotel. Take the complementary items such as coffee soaps etc.

Lost American Antiquities, Hidden History:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I recently attended a Book of Mormon evidence conference. I listened to a number of panels that gave archaeological evidence of where events occurred in Northern America that matched the events in the Book of Mormon. It was a great conference. Today’s blog is on some notes on Lost American Antiquates. Since I listened to the lecture I may have some name misspelled.

– Check out the book: The Lost Civilization in North America;
– Also book The Lost Cities by Roger krnnery
– Book: Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley
– Indian mound: Miamisburg; lost County, Ohio. Sections of the mound coincide with phases of the moon depicting highly advance understandings of astronomy. They use the same calculations as those used in ancient Egypt. The philosophy of manifest destiny and American expansion was the motivation behind destroying many of the Native American sites which depicted an advanced culture. One example of the site where the American Corps of Engineers destroyed complex earthworks depicted a Jewish lamp and a Menorah images created from the earth works. These designs are documented prior to the destruction of this archaeological site. Stone tablets were discovered in other mounds.
– The concept behind manifest destiny was to promote the thought that the culture of Native Americans had no historical value.
– An early Jowett Explorer that the native Americans report of the lost 10 tribes.
– James Ada, author of History of American History believed the Native Americans to be descendants of the Israelites.
– One archaeological site was as big as Giza
– In Wentworth letter, Joseph Smith said that ‘here’ is the book of Mormon people.
– Admost County, Ohio, has a mound by the name of Elphagg , which is a images of the snake swallowing made.

Promotion for Mile Lee, this Saturday at Utah Republican Conference:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

The 2015 Utah Republican Party State Organizing Convention is Saturday and we still need 10 patriots to stand up and help us at our booth. It is critical that we have enough people helping us, if we are going to get the freedom message out. We need to remind Utah why freedom works. And, the best way to do that is by showing up and supporting principled conservatives like Senator Mike Lee.
Will you help us? Will you let the values you and I believe in be drowned out? If you want to help us show Utah why freedom works, then let me know. Email me at my personal email addressccheap@freedomworks.org if you’re game.
With your help we can remind Utah why freedom works.

Spelling Accelerated:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Good: accelerated
Bad: excelerated

First thing, going faster is not spreadsheet software so it’s not Excel.
Second, what machine accelerates? A car, go fast and faster and if it aCCelerates fast enough it might look like the Car is in present and a Car in the future thus there are two Cs. aCCelerated
