Difference Between Detentions and Suspension

I keep getting these confused when I write my children’s fiction.

Detention: a student has to be in a undesirable confined area as punishment outside of school hours.

How to remember: I see the D as in a closed in letter and thus the D of Detention is closing a student in an undesired room.

Suspension: A student is prohibited from attending school.

How to remember: S of Suspension means S for stop attending school.
