Lori Bean Henderson discusses the Palmyra legacy. These are notes I took at the 2019 Book of Mormon conference. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

– Fighting preacher: is a movie about a guy serving a mission and living in the old Joseph Smith home. It is about the fighting preacher. Bean’s mission lasted about 24 years.
– Willard Bean born in Provo 1868.
– Sister Bean: gave many firesides.

– Age 18i> was a camp caretaker with the brothers.
– Age 22 (1890) fill a mission as an ordnance worker. One day he did 11K baptisms in one session. Highest amount.
– President Grant said he never knew anyone who could quote as many scriptures as Bean.
– He never got official training in boxing.
– Got 5 gold metals during college.
– Middleweight champion of western Utah.
– Named Mormon cyclone.
– He became a gifted speaker at political meetings in NY.
– Called on a mission for 5 yrs. or longer.
– 4 assignments. A. Make friends b. Farmed the land c. Baptize converts d. Started a branch of the church
– The man who sprayed water became bean’s best defenders.
– Wonderful feeling in the room for sister bean when a bunch of ministers and 5 teachers came to the house to harass her.
– Kids learned how to give the same tours as their parents.
– Book love unfeigned> book. Documentary.
– He arranged for a boxing competition. 1-2 fights lasted only seconds. 3-6 fights didn’t last an entire round
– The son got the brunt of bullying and abuse. The son of Bean not the daughter was the one who had desk nailed away from the other students.
– Br. Bean would go around different areas around Palmyra research and copy articles from old newspapers and sent them to church authorities.
– Fist branch 1926 in Palmyra had 3 families.
– Worked on buying different church properties.
– Bought the Camorra hill land, 3 surround properties and a building for 53K instead of original 25K
– The wife fed and housed 300 visitors and missionaries a month.

– The goal of the program is to improve ourselves in four areas: intellectual, social, physical and spiritual.
– You need to strengthen your faith and help you and your family progress in the heavenly path.
Primary:
– Parents should seek personal revelations as they teach their families.
– No matter how young you are and how insignificant you feel, God will answer your prayers.
– We are responsible for our own self-education. It is our responsibility.
– You can choose the things that interest you the most and what do you see of the things you should do.
– We have our free agency. Choosing to not do the programs you choose to not progress and to stay stagnate.
– This gives us a chance to become what the Lord wants us to be.
– Seek personal revelation in all that you do. If you include the lord in your decisions you will do what is best for yourself.
– Study in advance the lessons you teach your children.
– You have a blank slate. You can determine how to fill it.
– Social: serve others and prayerfully seek for those who need me. There is a friendship bench, where if a kid feels left out they can sit ton the bench and other kids can invite them to play.
– account out scenes that teach the gospel.
– Physical: some may go vegan.
– More sleep, exercise
– Intellectual: take a class, some may learn a language, read a book a week.
Youth:
– Luke 2:52: Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and with men.
– Goal: To be more like the savior and to be closer to Christ and Heavenly father.
– The First Presidency says focus to help youth to increase their faith. Discover their internal identity, develop their character, strengthen their ability to achieve their goals.
– Need to focus on what you need and what you want. You determine what ways you will grow.
– The first step of the plan: Discover and reflect on what we want to work on in our individual lives. Seek the spirit that can tell us areas we need to work on and learn.
– Second step plan: write down our goals and how to achieve our goals. Maybe include smaller steps for a bigger goal.
– Third step plan: we have faith in God and he will help us achieve our goals.
– Reflect: on what we have achieved. How have our lives changed? If we failed, what can we do differently to succeed
– This program is not meant to be done alone. Parents can support their youth, cheer them on.
– Leaders of youth to support and to cheer them on. The youth needs to lead. The youth need to plan their activities.
– Youth take advantage of the opportunity to learn and to grow. This is your program. You will need to put in the time and dedication.
Adult:
– Like Elder Urdorf’s talk, this your great adventure to Come Follow Me.
– This book is God-given.
– The first 15 pages are an introduction.
– In the Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins faces the opportunity for an adventure. He leaves comfort behind and seeks adventure.
– Discipleship is not about doing things perfectly but doing things intentionally. You need to do things with a purpose.
– The purpose of come follow me is to develop a deeper conversion to Jesus Christ.
– Use the Holy Ghost to implements a plan for your families.
– When Bilbo planned for his day of adventures he almost got distracted by clearing up his home. Gandalf asked when are you coming?. Bilbo left without his hat, walking stick hanky. He left a messy home behind to do what he needed to do.
– Many families set a time on Sunday to do their follow me

– Encourage you to pay your tithings as you earn your income.
– Sister Bednar’s mother reviewed past expenses. When paid tithing the medial bills were – lower.
– Tithing goes beyond temporal blesses. Have confidence that you can seek God’s blessings. Have confidence in the future.
– Hale: Tithing is a test of faith with eternal blesses. .. It qualifies us by our faith to enter the temple.
– Paying tithing prepares us for eternal life. Law of tithing prepares us to live the higher law of concentration.
– God appreciates the effort over the amount.
– Tithing is a way for us to help God move the work forward.
– Tithing is a simple way to show our love for the lord.

When you encounter a subject full of inaccUracies, you need to bring a buck of facts to debunk those inaccuracies. Think of the U as the visual image of a bucket.

The second visual image is the there are two As in inAccurAcies. To catch errors, you need to check more than once like the two As on the spelling.
