Messages in the mirror are like scriptures:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

If you take a hot shower, steam will appear on your mirror. The steam on the mirror is made up of water molecules. These tiny drops of water stick together on the mirror because of a force called surface tension. If you were to dab your finger into liquid dishwashing detergent you can write a note on the steam. You can do a note before the hot shower. Then when the steam forms on the mirror, it will avoid the detergent areas of the mirror.

The liquid dishwashing detergent breaks the surface tension of the water. Wherever there is detergent, the water molecules are unable to form into droplets. The words that are written with the soapy solution stand out clearly against the foggy background of the mirror.

Sometimes we can read the scriptures or listen to the words of prophets and not really understand why they say what they do. But as we live life and overcome challenges by obedience their messages the wisdom of their words can often become clear.

2017 State republican candidates.

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

For anyone interested in the state officers of the R party, here are links to the candidates. State voting is on May 20th. If you want to give your opinion/preferences, please view the candidate list offline and reply privately, not here.

I sent an email out, asking each candidate for their website. A couple also replied to the email. Any misinformation is the fault of Melva.

He also gave me a flyer

Robert Anderson

Rob Anderson, LtCol USAF, Ret Chairman of the Davis County Republican Party, announces his candidacy for Chair of the Utah Republican Party. He says, “We are in dire need of vision, leadership, fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Democrats are energized and organized. Now isn’t a time for the complacency we have seen from our party leadership. All those who espouse conservative values are welcome, and we look forward to increased involvement from all demographics throughout the state, with an emphasis on women and millennials, as both are currently underrepresented.”.

By day I am a Web Developer, by night I am the Webmaster for the Cache County Republican Party and Utah Republican Party. With my background in Information Technology and my prior experience which includes serving as the Vice Chair of the Davis County Republican Party, I feel I am uniquely qualified to leverage technology to bring people who share our values into our Party; and simplify, standardize, and speed up our processes, thus freeing up Precinct and County Party leaders to foster better relationships between the elected neighborhood representatives (the Delegates), the people they represent, and our elected officials.

Secretary

Lisa Shepherd

Thank you for being involved and reaching out. I love conventions and I hope you will enjoy your experience.

I have not submitted an email yet since I’ve been so busy doing the work of the secretary. However, I do hope to submit one next week.

I’ve been a county party secretary and was elected from among six excellent candidates last June to replace Bryce Christensen who moved out of state. I’ve been able to see the processes at the state party and in my opinion improve upon a few processes; such as, not delegating secretary duties of the volunteer officer to the paid staff. I believe if it has my name on it, it should be done by methods that I know are efficient and transparent. I have also created an online file with all information regarding State Party committee memberships and compiled previous scattered attendance records of the members for their’s and their constituents review.

My focus as the Secretary is on the duties of the office. I’ve enjoyed my time in service. I will have more information available soon. Again, thank you for reaching out.

Cole Souza

I’m waiting for a response.

Treasurer

Abram Young

I did not send Abram an email as he has not competition.

One man’s villain is another man’s hero:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

One of the panels at Life the Universe and Everything was on writing about one man’s villain is another man’s hero. Here are some of my notes.

Any inaccuracies or misinformation in any of these notes is the fault of the note taker.

  • Even evil wizards set up in the middle of the night to eat chocolate chip cookies.
  • Shallow villains are when they have a single motivation.
  • You need more than one motivation for someone to act
  • Best villains have small redeeming qualities.
  • Good villains need a motivation that people can relate to.
  • Villains have skills and qualities where they could have taken a nobler path but didn’t.
  • Smart villains will see the dangers and threats to their plan
  • The strength of your hero is the strength of your heroes that are worthy of the billing.
  • Good heroes do not mean a perfect hero. They need to have flaws.
  • We are looking for complex characters.
  • We like heroes that make mistakes or errors.
  • We like heroes with flaws where even a character can’t sing.
  • We like confident but not arrogant.
  • Good heroes have ideals and conviction.
  • Villains’ desires are more important than ethics.
  • Check out the TV show called the blacklist.
  • Check out the TV show justified.
  • Villains need to have a reason to going over to the other side.
  • Heroes that know about bad things and don’t make an effort to correct the bad things and let someone else do it makes them villainous. An example of this is that Churchill permitted a British city to be demolished so that the Germans would not know that the British had broken the German code.
  • You may need to delete some scenes when heroes go too far.
  • Revenge is a selfish motivation.
  • Book Ursula Le Guin: One who walked from omolosk.
  • What are your hero secrets they don’t want others to find out about.
  • What are some of the villain’s secret? These secrets help create complex characters.

The magic of tidying:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I went to a presentation at church and took some notes.  The subject was on the magic of tidying and how to fold clothes. The knowledge came originally from Maria Kondu..

Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • She says dress in nice clothes.
  • When organizing fold clothes in rectangles so that you can place them up in the drawer so that all clothes are seen when you open the drawer. Do not pile them on top of each other. This provides easy access. You can see all your clothes at once when they are put in drawers vertically.
  • When cleaning the house of a certain item, do it all at once. Get all the clothes in the house and put them in a big pile.
  • You do all clothes in the house at once, all books at once. Discard by category not by location. Books, clothing, dishes.  Not by room.
  • Put all things on the floor so you can see everything you have.
  • As you judge keeping or discarding an item, ask if it gives you joy. If it does not, discard. For each item does this spark joy? It needs to be an instant response.
  • Don’t play music while cleaning or permit distractions. Focus on only the task
  • Discard all and organize.
  • Thank your objects. At the end of the day put your items away.
  • She noticed that clients who got rid of stuff also lost weight.
  • Fold your socks in rectangle folds as you do your clothes. Don’t tuck them inside each other and stretch out the material.
  • She only keeps things she loves.
  • YouTube: Google folding clothes. Maria Kondu.

Delegate Meeting Round Two:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I was called last week to be a replacement delegate. I went to the second delegate meeting on Tue night. These are updated notes I took on the candidates. I went to the different candidates and asked, “Why should I vote for you?” I then took notes. When I talked to other delegates, there were a lot of complaints about how bad the communication system was between leadership and the delegates. One State Central Committee, candidate expressed concern that he didn’t know about Wednesday meeting until the day before.

There is no new info on the County chair candidates from last night as I couldn’t tell who was who and I didn’t want to attach the wrong notes to the wrong candidate.

Writing horrible things:

One of the panels at Life the Universe and Everything was on writing horrible things. Here are some of my notes. Any inaccuracies or misinformation in any of these notes is the fault of the note taker.

  • Book: nonfiction by Stephen King talks about why people like SF, F, and horror
  • Don’t open the door let the reader fill in the blanks of the monster
  • The greatest monsters are human.
  • You can have a sympathetic character and they make horrific choices.
  • Build a sense of inevitable that won’t stop till it completes its path.
  • Look for things that frighten you as an author.
  • One plot is of a person being transferred into the body of someone who was a child but the adult in mind. That bad person uses the body of the innocence to use for their own maliciousness goal.
  • Don’t glorify the act and villains get stopped. Show the price of crime to deter copycats.
