Search engines

At life the universe and everything I attend a presentation about search engines. Here are y notes. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • A lot of people who want to rank in search engines head into the boats without much thought. Better to have someone watching the waters for shows of fish (with a different vantage point) you can go specifically to the fish.
  • Search engine optimizing is getting your content higher rank/ found then your computers.
  • The higher up you rank on google you get 42% of the clicks
  • Types of search engine: google, yahoo, ging as well as Amazon, YouTube and linked in.
  • Value of ranking: if I could rank #1 on landscaping. They would have to pay 51K.
  • It takes time and patience to see improvement in your ranking
  • How do you title your page? Do they match the topic you want to be promoted?
  • The more people who share can increase the ranking.
  • Linked in ranks: has name and position. Name coach. Part of the summaries as well.
  • Job history shows as a job.
  • You can show which skills show up first in the skills section.
  • But key terms in your interests and summaries.
  • Ranking factors: search for search metrics. They are optimizing products. Once a year they put out a survey they look for common factors of what influence the improvement of ranks.
  • Technical factors: get errors found, too many redirects. Page speed takes extra time to load. Appearance: if your site does not look accessible from a cell phone you can drop. Using https secure web site. Those who are secure can improve ranking.
  • User signals: Put an analytics’ sensor on the page. Google owns it and gives away for free. Google chrome can track views. If to a search for a topic you want and Google looks and it site bounces off.
  • What are some things to keep people on your site: articles, related topics that would interest? Games or videos. If you have a video that is a pipe in from another site if will show vision viewing your site.
  • Content is made of words and images. Used to sprinkle the word throughout your page but now that is insufficient. Google created a rank brain. Google knows what keywords would be associated with the keyword. The author would include schools, visits, and other keywords. Read up on ranked brain to see how it works
  • Sem rush: Is a free version that will give 20- 30 results. Will show what high terms are used by people. For best sf books had other keywords. Will show which months of the yr. are higher.
  • Best science fiction books: (include of 2017) or best sf books “gifts)
  • Is your site easy to read? Google search rank factors.
  • Social signals: Facebook, Pinterest, sometimes a topic in medial/news can influence\
  • Links: try to get a link from a very credible web site. Like BBC. Have people link to your blog and info page. Maybe offer a book scholarship to a literacy student. Pay for books. And colleges may link to you to promote your page.

How to get followers on Social media Part one:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Here are notes from a life the universe and everything panel. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • First rule: market your work:
  • The people who buy your material are people who know you. Make friends and get to know the people who follow you. True with self-published. Form relationships.
  • When you’re marketing you have to have a website where people can see who you are, what you write, where to find you.
  • The second thing is you need, is to have a newsletter. Newsletters change as the environment changes.
  • If you don’t have a website for free. They will put their id on it for free websites. Wicks.com ehost, webelyh.com are some examples. They will have templates.
  • You can design website around your genera. When you do, have trappings of your genre on the website.
  • Things on the website: name; Close to the top, have a place to sign up for newsletters.
  • For newsletters, you can try mail chimp. Clean paranormal.com, used wicks apps for newsletters. Mail chip provides more flexibility. You can have a popup when someone comes to your website.
  • Put in a newsletter: maybe this is what I’m working on. Maybe include snips of what you’re writing on. One author had one every day and too much. Every week is not as annoying. Stick to once a month. If you do weekly, let them know it is weekly. Sign up for a weekly newsletter.
  • Maybe you can highlight best articles of the month in your newsletter.
  • A newsletter should usually be one page maybe include a short story. Try new things and see what people respond to. If people like it keep doing it.
  • Use ‘Bestselling author of’ … if you have that credentials or other related credentials.
  • Links to follow you on facebook. Have all the icons. Try to be on from time to time. Find some key social media sites you want to concentrate on and touch on them at a regular basis.
  • How do you decide which social media to concentrate on? Facebook is #1. Personal page, form an author page, do a community or group, events.
  • A personal page is for you, family, and friends. Too much promotion about your book and people will start unfriending. For every 10 posts maybe do one post self-promotion.
  • When you do a post on an author page, you want to try to gather likes. Likes do not translate to people seeing your post. Your presence is increased on Facebook by people who comment.
  • You can boost your post and pay money and you can target. You can target fans of Tolkien for fantasy etc. For fiction similar to Twilight, you might want to target people who like twilight series.
  • Set up every Friday on author page do a giveaway. A mermaid fiction author gives them makeup, mermaid earrings, or glow in the dark necklace. Little wrinkles. Give way. Like this post and tag a friend and that way, the friend can the post as well. A good way to keep your name in people’s minds. Go to random.org and it will pick a random number. Tell the contestants that the winner will be chosen by random.org
  • People don’t like to share.
  • Facebook: used to be effective but not as much. Can go onto book groups there will be places where you can put up your book. If you form a book group you can pin your ad up there. Anyone who promotes on your page they will see your ad as well as a banner. The presenter has group does all things paranormal, SF/F etc. Everything you post everyone in the group will see it. They can opt out of the group.

What does the “American Dream” mean to you?

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

At Toastmasters members were asked the above question. Here are some responses.

–  American dream means different things to different people.

Could be the opportunity to travel to the 50 states, study whatever you want to study, visit other countries.

–  Emigrants way book-Irish author.

Challenges emigrants have.  Some obvious.  Being out of element, not having family here.  Usually, know someone that can put in a good word to help start a job.

In founding, docs, they talk about having a shot. Not a guarantee,  don’t get prosperity and healthcare, you get a shot.  A chance.  People from other countries know this.  They know it’s going to be hard.  Other countries don’t even get that.

Irish author said no opportunities there.  Wanted to come to America and works in real estate.  The pursuit of happiness.

– I appreciate listening to a prominent commenter from India.  He was glad to come to America and away from the caste system. In India, you can’t rise above your level.

Appreciate the founding of America.  A bunch of men with different personalities worked together for the good of the country, worked together and compromised to become the United States.  13 states combined efforts to become a nation.

We should not sleep in our contentment and not stand up for privileges and rights or educate ourselves.  Appreciate having capabilities and rights of speech, religion.  Need to keep those rights active.

–  Had friend Azaiah democratic party in his country.  Emigrated to US.  After a lot of hard work and effort, he gained citizenship.   Met other new Americans. Heard a story of new Americans and 1st 4th of July and inducted on Mount Rushmore.  Inductees stood on a small stage and presented citizenship award.

If you emigrate here, lots of work.  Native-born American, appreciate hard work to earn that.  Those of us born here, uphold immigrants b/c they are the American dream.  Worked hard, achieved. Look at them and realize where ancestors came from.  Unless you have native American blood, all of us are immigrants.

–  The American dream, what a dubious phrase.  Someone is trying to sell you something.

Getting somewhere in life. A lot of headaches and work and little to show for it.

If you are willing to put forth work, be responsible for efforts, American dream still has shine.  If willing to set goals and take them by the hand to the finish line, you can have the American dream, but takes work.  Going to require you to step up to the plate every single day.

Can’t just be responsible once in a while.  Consistent and walk goal every day to finish line and achieve dreams.

The atonement:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Went to a fireside hosted by Gene r Rasmsiesosn , a 70. Here is his counsel about The Atonement.

  • Atonement provides relief from suffering we cause ourselves from sin but also restitution and healing as a result of sin.
  • Matt 18:21-22: how often should I forgive. 7×70. Our very salvation relies upon our ability to forgive.
  • It is our acceptance of the atonement that will save us.
  • Forgiveness is considering the other side of the atonement that will permit others go through repentance.
  • The atonement can heal us from the hurts of others.
  • Mosaic Law: Paul said. That the Mosaic law it is our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. Christ says I come not to destroy but to fulfill.
  • The law of sacrifice: is a contrite heart. It is one component of the Mosaic Law.
  • Restitution: must make up for the damage the sinner causes.
  • Mosaic Law to protect and respond to the heart of extended victims.
  • Ways the atonement employs the restitution
  • Alma 11:44 Promised everything will be restored to its perfect frame. Lord promises us all he has.
  • Forgive others: it a sign of faith in the atonement and promise that the saver’s sacrifice that will satisfy our debt but also others debt.
  • Forgiveness does not mean the sin against but maximize Gods atonement. It makes us whole.
  • Reason we can let get us that that savior makes us whole.
  • The greater harm that is set against us the greater is the atonement.
  • The greater sinner will love the lord more because the greater use of the atonement used on his behalf.
  • Application of the restitution:
  • Mosiah 3:
  • We are not held acct. for the sins of others.
  • When we think of the atonement we think of our relationship with god. We tend to think of the atonement is related to your sins.it promotes our recognition that the person we have harmed needs to be restored who was hurt from our sins.
  • Our peace comes with the promised to restore the bank account of the people we love.
