Selecting a ham:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

I’m not sure where I got this info. Usually, for an article like this, I will google different sites, combine different ideas and then post the sources. I don’t see sources here.

  • Hams may b one of those items where you usually get what you pay for. Mass produced, inexpensive hams may be processed in as little as twelve hours. More expensive hams may not be ready for market with less than two weeks of processing. Additionally, the best hams come from selected pigs that have been fed high protein diets prior to slaughter.
  • Processors may vary the amount of salt or sugar in a ham to meet company specifications. Additionally, the smoking process may vary. When you find a ham that has the flavor that you like, stick with it.
  • Color and appearance are important considerations in selecting a ham.
  • Select a fresh ham that is a bright grayish-pink. Those fresh hams that have a pale, soft, watery appearance are less desirable. A fresh ham that has a greenish cast may indicate bacterial growth and should be avoided.
  • Select a cured ham that has a bright pink color. A lighter-colored pink or a non-uniform coloring may be the result of improper curing or exposure to store lights. Again, a greenish cast may reflect the presence of bacterial growth. Avoid those hams that have a multi-colored appearance. It may suggest the presence of bacteria.
  • Avoid those hams that have excessive marbling. These may have a greasy taste.
  • The general rule is to plan on six to eight ounces of boneless ham per serving and eight to twelve ounces of bone-in ham per serving.
  • It is the opinion of some that bone-in hams taste better.

Magnify your calling:

At church, a husband and wife team talked about the same subject. Here are my notes. Any inaccuracies is the fault of the note taker.

  • Talk: the greatest among you, every member of the church has the opportunity to serve.
  • We are God’s servants.
  • Referred to the movie about a rat that learns how to cook, Ratatouille.
  • A calling for one person maybe gives them the chance to come out of the shell. By Urdorf
  • I could not magnify my calling until it magnifies me.
  • One lady got a call to a sacrament organist. She bought a little piano. She practiced every day on the small keyboard and learned how to play. She acted in faith. Eventually met with the bishop. She didn’t work out as an organist but she had already learned faith when she was later called to be Relief Society President.
  • Calling give to us to allow our faith to grow and show God we are willing to serve.
  • Our callings are to serve others and to learn our individual skills. In the eyes of God, one calling is no greater than the others. Urdorf.
  • We need to let our callings to magnify us. How they let us learn to increase our faith.
  • Love your calling and let it magnify you.
  • Calling: to receive an invention from authorized leader to server him in a particular way.
  • God calls people calling that are a good fit for them.
  • Dc 121:34-36: many called but few are chosen. Rights of the priesthood are connected by the powers of heaven.
  • Perspective father in law to memorize sections D&C 121. He wanted him to understand how it helped him in this life.
  • When husband applied to the father in law for marriage with his current wife, Father in law said you must put God first in everything you do.
  • If you do what God’s asks he will take care of the rest.
  • Dc 4:5: faith hope and charity and love… qualifies him for the work.
  • Whatever Gods called you to do you are meant to do it.
  • Ether 12:37: if any come unto me I will show them their weakness. I show their weakness so they will become humbler. Weak things will be made strong.
  • We need to learn how to balance our calling with other parts of our lives.
  • Bednor; How to live a balanced life. There is no such thing as a balanced life. We can only do one thing at a time. The first key is not to have too many plates. Concentrate on important things first. All plates don’t spin (like a chines acrobat) the need to spin at a different speed.
  • Do your best.
  • Magnifying your calling is different for everyone.
  • Whatever skills you have, give your all to the Lord. The Lord will take care of the rest.

Phases of moving:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

this is from a presentation at Toastmasters.

  • People relocate to other cities for many reasons.  According to Surveybot.com, an average of 11% of Americans in the United States relocate each year.  27% relocate for family reasons and 20% relocate due to employment.
  • Whatever the reason, there are 3 phases that you go through to get yourself integrated into your new city.
  • Establish the basics.  This means finding the utility company, internet provider, grocery store, library, gas station, post office, find a doctor and dentist.
  • If you have kids, you will need to register them and find the bus route.
  • You will need to find your route to work.
  • You will start unpacking boxes.
  • Comfort stage.  You transition to finding the things that make you comfortable or keep you entertained such as the movies, shopping, the nearest home improvement store because the “custom paint job” the realtor bragged about is hideous.
  • You will still continue to unpack boxes during this stage as well.  You will also venture around town.
  • Settling stage.  You will make your house a home by decorating.
  • You will refine your route to work to avoid the horrible rush hour traffic in the morning (I-15).
  • You will venture out away from town and see what else the state has to offer, like State and National Parks.
  • Moving from place to place can be hard, but as long as you take it one stage at a time, it can be a smooth transition.

Missionary work:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

Some comments from a church meeting.

  • United, you be become vast army to be a part of this work.
  • Why are we afraid to share the gospel? We don’t feel comfortable with our knowledge of scriptures or of the gospel. We can study the gospel and scriptures. We are afraid that people will reject our attempt and ridicule us. Some have a hard time recognize others but they tried anyway.
  • We do our part and the lord will help us with the rest.
  • Nephi went back for the plates and didn’t know what to expect.
  • The spirit is what teaches.
  • Many missionaries think they need to reap but they need to learn that they can also sew. Plant the seed that may be harvested later. Missionaries will not know how many seeds will eventually grow.
  • Some notice that they are studying a certain topic and others will ask about that question.
  • One missionary president: if it rains drink it. Open your mouth and the Lord will fill it.
  • Overcome hurdles in sharing the gospel. Pray for missionary experiences that are comfortable to us. If you have a negative experience, at least you can know that you tried.
  • People seek and respond to the same stimuli: experience same experiences and feelings. Cold, fear etc. we share things in common.
  • Quiet courtesy can usually overcome hurdles.
  • Focus on the similarities.
  • Religion is people trying to be better people.
  • Even if people don’t believe the same thing leave the door open. When you teach the true gospel, it allows the spirit to be there leaving the door to be open.
  • How can you increase our desire to share the gospel? When we have experienced the positive things of the gospel we want to share it. Just like Lehi in the tree vision wanted to share the fruit of Christ with his family.
  • How can members help the full-time missionaries? Fellowship with the investigators who come to church. Outreach to anyone new to the ward. Send them referrals. We can share the gospel through example.
  • Sometimes share our phone number in case missionaries need someone to be present when teaching the gospel. You can be a friend with the investigator you visit and they have a friend when they come to the ward. Sometimes a member of the church can relate to that investigator.
  • We can befriend a less active friend or to know our co-workers better.
  • Sometimes a member who is struggling with a concept of the gospel you can ask that causal friend can ask how can I help. Then two friends can talk about the principal.
  • Realize that we are all learning each of us is at different stages of progression.
  • Gordon b Hinckley said: the best track we can carry is the goodness in our own lives.
  • When someone comes to church with the smell smoke don’t complain about it.
  • Being a missionary lets you interact with people you may otherwise never had a chance to do who are different and social levels or cultures
  • Gordon B Hinckley; (paraphrase) a message to missionaries. I can’t promise you fun, comfort; I can promise you can grow like you’ve never grown before. You will reevaluate your lives and establish new priorities and you will grow closer to the Lord. You will walk in faith in the outcome of things you do.
  • The gospel is a message of love.
  • The gospel is the great source of joy and happiness.

Spelling prominent

Good: prominent

Bad:  promentent

Right now I don’t have the best example to remember this middle of this word. Each of us may only have a MINute to be at the top of their game or proMINent in their field.  Don’t put in the men because both men and women can both be prominent in their careers.

Personal adversity:

Here is a continuation of my notes from a life the universe and everything panel. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • Don’t feel odd.
  • Babies cry at night> because they don’t know if their parents will come back.
  • Microaggression is when people say things to others. You have a perfect life.> they don’t see what you’ve done to succeed.
  • Trials make you the person you are.
  • Books which have characters who face adversity makes them human and people can relate to
  • Book: redeployment > short stories about military people. In Iraq.
  • Stick with your vision; don’t let other apathy discourage you
  • While you’re no success in one area concentrate upon another area. But don’t throw that other work.
  • You grow in still, keep putting out a body of work. Your fourth book makes $4 a month then make a book then you begin to succeed.
  • Your past material is building a portfolio.
  • You can learn how to say things better.
  • If you’re a professional you can’t have writer’s block.
  • If you can’t write you need to fill in your well, maybe human interaction.
  • Avoid distractions when writing.
