AMAC gave an online presentation about Medicare and the following ae my notes. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

What is Medicare advantage?

  • Also known as part c.
  • Only good for one year. Reset each year.
  • They have networks. You must go to a doctor that is in that network.
  • They have drug coverage and have little to no premiums.
  • Changes made every year and out want to make the change each year.
  • If you move, you have a two month windows to change your advantage plan for you new location/ state.
  • Want to check with your current doctors and med co which carriers are available in your state.
  • Part d: drugs

 

Medicare supplements (medigap)

  • Fill in the gaps that your Medicare does not cover.
  • Runs alongside Medicare part a and b.
  • Typically have monthly premium.
  • No network so can go where you want. This is good for travelers.
  • They do not include drug coverage. You chose your separate persecutions drug coverage.
  • You pay through social security administration.

 

Avoiding fraud:

  • Protect your Medicare number.
  • Review your Medicare summary notices.
  • Never give blanket permission.
  • Never sign blank forms.
  • Always request written material.
  • Carefully review your benefits statements.
  • Keep accurate records of all health re appointments.
  • Know if your physician ordered equipment for you.
  • Don’t buy from an unfamiliar company.
  • Always take your time on a decision.
