Janine Bolon offered a video workshop on creating a media kit on Google drive. It was a good presentation. This is the rest of the notes.  Any misinformation on my notes is the fault of the note taker. These are for my use as well as for sharing.

  • What you want to accomplish in your book launch will determine what actions you take for your media kit.
  • If you want to target bloggers, then you want to provide images that bloggers like using.
  • For radio shows and podcasters, you will want more clips and hyperlinks.
  • Speaker media kits also want hyperlinks
  • You will want to have video, audio, and hyperlinks to various regions of your website.
  • Your will media kits geared to event planners. Your objective is to be invited to present at keynote events. in addition, your media kit needs to be highly focused on that goal. Event planners want testimonials of people who have attended past events. did other event planners label you as a capable speaker? event planners need the material to sell you to those who will pay you.
  • Your hyperlinks will point to various spots on yourself that will provide the examples and info they need.

Creatives Media kits.

  • The objective of their media kit is to promote/highlight their products
  • Creatives are any artist or professional that produce content art such as painters, jewelry.
  • If you make jewelry. Your media kit need to concentrate on your design.
  • Your kit to show what your style is. Christian Dior created a style that dresses women from head to toe. shoes should match the dress etc. That style range from hats, to shoes.
  • What is your signature product? This is usually your most expensive piece.
  • All the other stuff surrounds the signature piece. it is emphasized.

Media kits

  • Need to be created for each dimension of your business:
  • Maybe have quotes from your books. You may want to offer three dimension images of your books. There are free sources to create them.
  • Past interviews may have hyperlinks to sound cloud.
  • You will want to provide workshop descriptions.
  • Take pictures of yourself in your activity.

Media kits for speakers and presenters:

  • A one sheet is you on one page. logo. favorite head shot, testimonials. use logs of companies you’ve presented to.
  • You will want to cater you bio according to your audience. Maybe people have to ask for your bio, so you can cater it to their needs. One presenter is an engineer and presents that in a bio or a different bio for woman’s groups. Your audience influences it.
  • Wherever you speak, make sure you ask to use their logo.
  • Provide testimonies.
  • Show links of you presenting.
  • People don’t hire speakers they can’t hear speaking.
  • When you point one recorded video to YouTube, they will see your other talks as well.
  • You can build your repertoire by recorded zoom meeting or lunch and learns (or library presentations) always get logs with their permission.
  • Pod caster loves media kits that show what you’ve done.
  • For Zoom recordings: is a place to present

Media Kits for authors;

  • Have a media key for each book. everything is done by links.
  • If you first book is moving to audio you may want to emphasize that first book and the kit changes or is updated.
  • You want to have an active sheet not a static sheet where it does not become out of date.
  • You want to put in info that helps you stand out from other peoples. MG: (if your funny) indicate that
  • whenever you have an event such as a book launch, you need to make it news worthy. when you put in the description, you want to identify the pain you will be address that motivates people to be interested/ attend. such a copywriting a book etc. What solution are you providing?
  • You need to answer the question why should I attend this event or read this book.

Media kit for Marketing director:

  • If you don’t have the professional credential yet, then emphasize your message that will stimulate interest.
  • You are never finished revising a media kit just as Steven Spielberg says you never finish a movie.
  • If you have a 3-4 min presentation on a TV or elsewhere that can be shred to other potential customers.

Media kit for radio hosts and pod casts:

  • A media kit can give the pod caster quick bullet points, what your message is. this is why this will resonate with your audience. and provide links.
  • The virtue of a podcast is the audience can listen on their own time.
  • Pod cast listeners can also listen when they are in the frame of mind to hear your message.
  • If you have a controversial message> look for podcast that are open to new ideas rather than just those who agree with you. That platform will give you a broader reach rather than podcast who agree with you.
  • Provide interview questions helps to stay on topics to what your message is.
  • mg: what is your mission statement for certain speech?
