I had the chance to attend the Utah Writers League conference this year because of the generously of a fellow writer, who couldn’t go. Here are my notes.
 A left-brain function. Problems in the manuscript are color coded.
 An editing funnel technique
 Content editing: story: plot, setting characters.
 Line editing: language: usage, wordiness, descriptions, dialog
 Copy editing readability; grammar, error transitions.
 Proofreading: catch what was missed.
 Before you begin/ rest your manuscripts.
 Read it aloud.
 Trust the reader! Cut it.
 Use beta readers.
 If you ask yourself a question it might be true
 If the point of view consistent
 How are the characters introduced?
1. Overuse synonyms,
Spend pages describing a scene and background before going on with the story.
Watch for overuse of long sentences
Begin every sentence or paragraph the same.
Do you have something to add? If you do, please respond in the comment section of this blog. Thanks.
