Collaboration advice:

One of the panels at 2016’s Wester-con or was it LTUE (?) was on Collaborations. Here are some of my notes. Any inaccuracies or misinformation in any of these notes is the fault of the note taker.

  • If the collaboration is not working, be willing to walk away
  • Define in the contract who has creative control.
  • You need to work for someone that shares the same stuff as you do
  • Work was someone that has strengths where you are weak and vice versa.
  • Define in the contract that if there is even our unequal work by one of the participants how can that be resolved?
  • You need to respect you author collaboration.
  • If you end up badly was someone who is hard to work with maybe should avoid the collaboration.
  • Both sides need to be answerable to the project.
  • Need to have an author checklist.
  • You can determine one’s interest accrued involved in the project by how quickly they respond to your correspondence.
