Addiction, Honesty:

Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker. I may have mixed a bit of a talk into my class notes. I’m not certain.

  • A seminary teacher had school athlete do 300 + pushups to earn class members donate cakes. He compared it to atonement to our lives.

  • The atonement is also for our afflictions and not just our sins.

  • Ricky from a half-way house did prayer and faith to begin his path to a new life. He changed his life. Repentance is the ability to change. We can be filled with Christ’s love. We need repentance every day of our lives. The only way to change is through repentance.

  • We are invited to allow the savior to change our hearts and our lives.
  • We need to look for the good in each other.
  • There are meetings to provide support.
  • With the addicted mind we many have the need to meet more often with more like minded people.
  • Look up video of about blind man on the train. He just got his eyes and was responding to all the world wonders he could now see. Other passengers did not understand his joy
  • Admit to yourself that your life is unmanageable.
  • Negatives of word of wisdom are to abstain anything that would stop the spirit of God.
  • Addiction removed more than physical pain but addressed other deficiency of our lives such as worry, loneliness, regret etc.
  • Addiction can be used to make you numb to life’s challenges.
  • People who have addiction make efforts to hide their addiction.
  • Software called ‘Lie Detector’ that can test one’s honesty.
  • People who face addiction can be great liars. And that can take away the spirit.
  • 1 Nephi 1:1 was a positive affirmation but contained truth
  • Those with addictions will use affirmations to tell themselves they are fine.
  • Great parents may have a knowledge of gospel, but kids have to learn for themselves.

  • Homework: go to the church addition site and find a meeting and attend it. Go to one.

  • We need to fortify ourselves. Understand the Why / what / how.
  • Man can build all modes of protection and fortification against the elements and enemies.
  • Alma 48-50 Nephi build small forts.
  • 2 Tim 3:in the last days … men become lovers of their own selves.
  • Lord never gives us a challenge but he provides a way to overcome that challenge.
  • Paul said: continue in the things we have learned.
  • Every Sunday and each conference we hear how to build ourselves. Sacrament, attend meetings, listen to general conference.
  • Best irrigation method is the drip method. Drip by drip can also be used by daily consumption of the gospel. Include a slow steady application of the gospel.
  • Until your honest and accept that something needs to change you can’t go forward.
  • Many will isolate themselves from family for their addiction.
  • Have accountability to someone. Maybe discuss triggers with someone.
