Collecting stories of our founding fathers

I am in the process of collecting stories about our founding fathers and there are several that I have not heard of much or are new two me. Here are some of my findings. I invite others to share links to unusual stories they have found. Eventually I hope to put together an hour story telling session about early America and see if it will be of interest to the rest homes of the area.

There is one in particular that I heard at a Patriot camp two years ago and hope to eventually find its source. Just as there is excellent material in the books the Real George Washington or the Real Thomas Jefferson and The Real Benjamin Franklin, I’ll have to see if there is The Real John Adams. I’ll have a few stories once I finish the Real books. Here is what I remember of John Adams:

Gist of story.

John Adams was ten years old and lived in Boston. The people of Boston spent the whole day fasting and praying for protection from the British. It was said that England had sent an amotta of battleships heading to Boston to destroy it and to suppress the rebellion of America.

The people of Boston, spent the day in prayer and fasting to ask for God’s help. Everyone was gathered in the churches. It began to storm outside. The minister responded to the bad weather thanking God for his help and continued to pray. The storm got worse in Boston raining, thunder lightening and great winds. It was a terrible storm outside the churches.

The minister thanked God for his help. He continued to pray and the storm became very strong. Several days later it was learned that the entire British fleet was destroyed save for three vessels.

That is what I remember from the story.

Here are some links to others I’ve collected:

It is good when I can have multiple sources to the same story.

Please feel free to give additional links to stories you have found and share in the comment section of the blog/site
