I came across some typed up notes from a previous session of life universe and everything panel.

Here are the notes on symbolist in fiction.

  • Symbolism presents a mystery whether readers might not otherwise expect one. A symbol representing something within the story that the character might not even be aware of.
  • Symbol can represent an event or character trait.
  • Private symbols must be discovered over the course of a lifetime, and meaning which may not be understood. Public symbols are familiar to all (most) to cultural literacy.
  • Symbols can be used to cut down the amount of wording necessary to explain something.
  • Plot = events, theme = meaning.
  • Some symbolism cannot be inserted into a story; they tend to rise out of the material as it is created.
  • Physical symbols can bring new and enlightening behaviors out of characters.
  • If nobody gets them then they want symbols. They may be personal symbols that no one else will perceive.
  • Symbolism often strikes a subconscious cord with the reader, causing him to like the story without necessarily knowing why.
  • There are certain things that seem to transverse cultures, and can be layered into a story.
  • Symbols have external meanings as well as meanings inside the story and add a level of richness the reader will perceive.
  • Private symbols can often mean something else as public symbols and can mislead the reader. Even public symbols can have different meanings.
  • Symbols can make a book re-readable by presenting a different aspect each time.
  • Theodore Roethke: “13 ways of looking at a blackbird”.
  • When you’re starting out, don’t force symbolism; let it come out on its own and go back looking for it later. The symbolism should be organic, almost inevitable. Don’t force symbols repetition to reinforce its meaning in your story.
  • Don’t borrow someone else’s symbolism and try to imprint it on your story. The more intellectual a symbol is the less effective it is.
  • Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
  • Many symbols have been cheapened and debased and must often be avoided.
  • Public symbols are the ones that must be allowed to insert themselves. Private symbols, developed within the story with caution.
  • If it is immediately recognizable as a symbol, then is not working as it should.

CERT Three:

Here’s my next group of notes for emergency preparedness on behalf of the CERT personnel.

These are the steps for sizing up an emergency situation:

  • Facts: gather the facts
  • Anticipate: consider the facts and guess the potential futures.
  • Plan: choose a direction before implementing velocity.
  • Act: do less talking and more doing.
  • Review: continue reevaluating situation and modify actions if needed.
  • In an emergency situation the victims usually outnumber the helpers.
  • In most likely you will be limited on needed resources
  • There are several levels of victims.
  • There are those who need immediate attention so that you can save their lives.
  • Those who without help will be dead in several hours. This might be due to organ failure
  • Those who will die in several days or a week. This might be due to infections etc.
  • There are three main killers: airway, bleeding, shock.

When you come upon a victim do these steps

  1. Do not approach them directly not from behind
  2. Identify yourself and what organization you represent.
  3. Asked permission to help them, if a parent or partner, get permission you can offer assistance. If they are unconscious you can help them.
  4. Analyze a situation and determine their needs
  • Shock means insufficient blood flow. This can result in the failure of cells, tissue and internal organs.
  • Ways to determine shock. Look for rapid or shallow breathing.
  • Press finger against Palm or fingertips and see if the indent of your finger is replaced by blood flow of the skin. If they are in a cold environment blood flow may not respond well.
  • See if they are able to understand and follow your commands.

To take care of someone in shock:

  • Lay them down so that the heart is not work so hard.
  • If you have a low body temperature you may want to put on a blanket to keep them warm.
  • Raise the feet higher than the level of the heart. Anything can be used as a pillow for the feet. Avoid rough handling.
  • Do not give them food or drink. If they begin to throw up, sat there body on the side to maintain a clear passage.
  • Do not pull out an object is in the body as they can cause more bleeding. The object can plug the hole.
  • In a real disaster there will be a lot of noise.
  • You don’t necessarily want to attend the people that are yelling. They could be yelling because they have a hangnail.
  • As you analyze a new situation you should devote 30 seconds to each individual for initial analysis of their needs and provide be a quick response such as if they have shock or are bleeding.
  • If they are bleeding, hold something against the wound to stop the blood. You can also put pressure on the artery points of the body to stop blood flow. Artery points are located inside the arm, in the inside area where your legs attached your body (front of the hip) and behind the knee. You want to press your fingers hard enough that it goes against the bone. This can slow blood flow to a wound away from the artery point that gives it time to clot. You may need to create a pressure bandage to maintain pressure if you don’t have personnel to do it.
  • Latex gloves deteriorate after a year.
  • In an emergency you want to have some to write with so you can document the actions during triage. I had the idea of having stick it notes and safety pins so I need to write something about somebody I need to remember to write legibly. I could go ahead and put on the stick it note and then safety pin it on their close. The other idea is that some of the trainers has masking tape and a marker and can actually write notes are right on the patient’s four head. They also write notes themselves and put the tape on their legs, such as a head count and to document observations made to triage. You can also use your documentation to identify where people located in case you need to notify investigators.

Triage is when you follow a plan

  • Document observations
  • Evaluate people saw them according to their designation
  • Setup the treatment. Immediate responses or those that or bleeding, have shock, or have difficulty breathing. Those who have lesser problems can become helpers to those that have the biggest problems.
  • It’s always important to wear your gear identification and also the eye goggles protect you from flying liquids. You one always maintain high hygiene which includes new gloves for new patients if you have adequate resources.

Steps to triage:

  • Stop, look, listen and think
  • Give directions such as come to me some people are able to help themselves.
  • Evaluate each victim
  • Document triage results

Triage pitfalls:

  • Somebody who can be really panicking and yelling they bed that does not necessarily mean that they should be prioritized
  • Avoid indecisive leadership.. Deliver treatment rather than triage.

Family history five:

These are notes from my training this week on family history.

  • When a person is marked as green that means that their data can be submitted for work in the temple. It’s very important to check all the sources to substantiate the data that you see. The family search database will volunteer sources that may contribute in your documentation.
  • You want to check on sources and hints to find supportive evidence of the data you submit the temple work.
  • Search relationships to find the common values. Use documentation to confirm their correct.
  • Look for a close family relationship.
  • Review attachments, bring up documents that give birth and marriage etc. and attach it to the bottom of the account to provide supporting evidence in your submission.
  • If you can’t find family history, try at ancestry.com.
  • Be aware that the same last name be spelled multiple ways and incorrectly.
  • In ancestry.com you can add another person to share your profile.

Man Or Other Animals:

Alfred Adask (TX) gave a presentation on how various governments of the world are taking away the value of man as being created in Goad’s image and identifying man as a mere animal. He presented this information to the documentation of the law.

Gen 1: (an overview)

God creates this earth and its heaven and all forms of life in six days—The creative acts of each day are described—God creates man, both male and female, in His own image—Man is given dominion over all things and is commanded to multiply and fill the earth.

It all started when a couple in Texas asked his help.

There is a couple who sold Colloidal Silver and the government told the attorney general of Texas to prosecute the couple for selling medicine without a license. They would be charged $25K a day fine. Through the years the couple eventually asked alfred to provide suggestions of what to do.

He looked at the paperwork from the attorney general. He studied the definition of medicine. He noticed that medicine was interpreted any chemical that causes a change in man or other animals. It was at this point he saw that in today’s laws of man. man is being labeled as being equal to an animal. He became involved with the case and presented to the court that due to religious liberty many feel that they were created in God’s image and had to minion over animals as documented in Genesis.

Because of this, man has certain rights that animals don’t. This also explains while certain sins or crimes are considered an offense against God and not just man. Since man is created under the image of God whatever is done to man could be considered being done to God. Examples of this might be murder (Genesis 96) or sodomy. Even in the Declaration of Independence it states that all men are created equal and that this is self-evident.

Alfred upon sharing his observation about the phrasing of the law in various states was contacted by people from other countries but also found that their laws indicated man and animal to be of equal level.

The definition in the law of men it animal being equal seem to have started in 1906. The concern about this is that if man is equal to animals they may not deserve having rights.

He said that the difference between unalienable rights and inalienable rights. unalienable rights means that individual has the power to make a decision. inalienable rights mean that I can give up my rights. Example of this might be Esau selling his birthright to Jacob for porridge.

By looking at the law, anything that makes a physical change in the body of animal or man could be considered medicine. Does that mean could a Taser being used by a police officer be considered practicing medicine without a license said that causes a change in the body?

This could also influence abortion. In Ezekiel its reference that man existed prior to birth. And us at the moment of conception man is considered a live if we interpret that Scripture in Ezekiel correctly.

I came across some typed up notes from a previous session of life universe and everything panel. Here are the notes on making the sale.

  • When you know someone who is doing publishing (anthologies and such those privacy, you can get invited to participate, where you wouldn’t without networking.
  • Networking can be done in person (at conventions, for instance) or on email services.” It never hurts to ask.”
  • Having been to Clarion can be important in the first impression of a cover letter.
  • Market reports are in magazines, newsletters and online e-services
  • Slush pile updates are often listed on Genie. “One percent inspiration, 99%.” (T. Edison)
  • Talent is fine. But it won’t go anywhere without the drive to continue.
  • Negative networking can occur too. Editors talk to each other and share horror stories.
  • Do what the editors say.

Cert training two

I decide to re-certify the CERT training for its good to be reminded of techniques after a few years have passed. This is week two.

  • There are three ingredients are needed for a fire; fuel, oxygen, heat. Remove one of the three and you to stop the fire.
  • There are five types of fires

A: is for ordinary combustibles

B: is for flammable liquids

C: energized electrical equipment. Keep in mind with electrical equipment that the wall may contain damage and not just the sparks flying an outlet. As you start turning off circuit breakers and refuses it’s important to start small first and then moved to the main outlet. When you turn things back on are the opposite small things first then the large

D: combustible metals

K: cooking oils.

  • There will be some labels on your fire extinguisher to tell you which one is used for what kind of fire.
  • The fireman and great mnemonics of how to remember which one is what.

B equals boom as happens with inflammable liquids.

C equals chargeable which as in chargeable batteries or electrical equipment that requires energy.

D equals doom for combustible metals burn at a very high temperature and can create havoc

K equals kitchen and what is in the kitchen? Cooking oils.

A equals all the rest such as paper, homes, general materials

  • Nice things add to your emergency kit sharpie, paper, with and forms
  • It would be important to have the ranch connected to your meter. May be used as a cord such as those used to contain zip/computer cords ties to tie the ranch on to the meter. And it cannot be easily removed with a child.
  • When the rectangular notch is alive high the channels open. One it is misaligned to the line of high is turned off.
  • To turn off the meter turn left one fourth turn.

Select the pipe that leads to the ground.

  • Fire extinguishers
  • On the extinguisher will tell you what it’s used for.
  • Many Extinguishers that have a gauge that will let you know the status of the pressure. You’ll – want to check the status of your equipment so it’s usable when you needed
  • Use the acronym pass for the steps of using the fire signature.

Temples and churches:

Today’s object lesson is dedicated in honor to the dedication of the Provo city center temple. I hope today’s object lesson can be used to youth ministries, family devotionals and family home evenings.

Different containers serve different purposes. We have prescription bottles to help us manage the proper dispensing of medicines. We have match boxes which contain matches in an organized well labeled container. We sit in the car to be transported from one destination to another.

We have buildings that are dedicated to different purposes. A hospital is used help with the sick as well as a library to contain books. Churches and temples are dedicated to learning God’s gospel and also provide an opportunity for us gather together and do his work. It gives an opportunity for people who share a common purpose and to learn together. Church is for us sinners to improve ourselves.

Object lesson:

Have various containers that still have their contents. Discussed how each container is labeled and preformed the task. One example is where medical containers contain a safety lock to prevent children from hurting themselves by taking medicine they shouldn’t. A safe having security code that is required to get access. Built your examples from small items to large and discuss how churches and temples can help improve our lives.

Perspective from a Muslim 3:

This was a very positive presentation where I learned same great info about the Muslim faith and people. This is a continuation of my notes of the week before. Any inaccuracies are the fault of the note taker.

About the Koran:

The Koran was created by people writing down Mohammed’s words as he said them or people writing them down later in their lives from memory. Mohammed was the last prophet. Mohammed said that he came to confirm the Scriptures it had come before him. The only prophet that didn’t have to ask for forgiveness was Christ.

The interpretation of the Koran is influenced by the alphabet character of the DOT. The placement of the dots in the sentences influences the interpretation of that Scripture. Some experts have rearranged the placement of the dot and have made certain previously confusing phrases of the Koran more understandable.

Differences between the Koran and the misinterpretation by certain Muslims are:  If you leave the religion you are an infidel but in the Koran is says no compulsion in religion. The Koran teaches that you can live forever with your family forever. It emphasizes the original concepts of the Bible

When Mohammed addressed the people for the last time he said ‘all people’, instead of his usual, ‘my people’. He said Know that you will return to God. Also said treat women right and justly. Only take what is willingly given to you. The greatest one of all was Mary the mother of Christ.

He showed a documentary called not in my name. In that documentary showed how many clerics state that the radicals or not properly following the Koran

This is a very good presentation. I’m told that this man eventually converted to Christianity.

How to remember the forward slash (/)

I have always had a hard time remembering this. One suggestion told to me, is to choose the one that falls forward; but, does it fall forward left or right?

The tonight I came with a way (This may have been obvious to many of you already) the hand goes forward in time by the hand moving forward to the right. At the 1 am/pm it looks like a “/”

Thus the forward slash is /.

I told a friend my idea and see held me maybe even a better idea of how to remember this. He says that the sauce to read he reads from left to right source is moving forward on the text to the right therefore the forward slash (/) is in the same direction as reading words on a page.

This mnemonic might help me remember this. Now I need to attach the same idea of how to remember the time change in the spring and fall. Is the spring time does the time change springs forward ad hour or spring back? After the winter we are eager to start anew with the sprint thus spring forward an hour. /. 1 am becomes 2 am. Etc.

Boy maybe we’ll see if I can do both correctly now. Time will tell. Ha ha bad pun.
