Bite sized fiction:

Here is more great writing advice from Life, the Universe, and Everything. The theme of the presentation is acting for writers: By Annie Awall. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • We were building an audience before the book comes out. Melva’s website: have fellow authors provide a favorite scene: 1 pg. synopsis.
  • Bestsellers may take time to become popular and grow. Now you can hire a consultant to make you a big seller but it could backfire as you will be backlisted.
  • Neilson ratings for books. = rates books.
  • Publish is a very fluid business. It is not always a romance. It is a give and take where each side doesn’t like something.
  • Back list: means you are not listed in the publisher’s books.
  • Having training where your book is part of the training can influence training.
  • If invited to a book club, ask did they want a reduced price to buy books prior to my visit?
  • A business model can help sells.
  • When you write queries: also submit a business plan. Tell them the size of your audience of who is going to buy your book and why. It’s all about the base.
  • Always now that you don’t have just an English speaking audience. Don’t make our book too American.
  • You, yourself is your best marketing tool.
  • You need to read other people’s works and do reviewers. Post on Amazon and good reads.
  • Shelf awareness: will send you an email of new books and often have book giveaways. This is a good way to get your name out there. If you get a free book, you need to review it. Other people are willing to help you as they can review you since you reviewed them.
  • You can’t be shy about your book. I’m not afraid.
  • Tips for finding an agent.
  • Agents sell the publisher on you.
  • For agents check, see who they represent.
  • Don’t ever pay money upfront. Reputable agents don’t ask for money up front.
  • Create a book proposal: audience, synopsis, table of content, and sample chapter. Bio. Well them on what your influence/reach/plan from you can do on social media. If you self-publish, you don’t sell publishers on buying your book.
  • Attend book conferences = you can network meet authors where you can review each other.
  • Book expo of America: a lot of the audience is book blogging. Give away free books. You can also see the trends in publishing.
  • On good reads, you can see which reviews have 500 readers then that person would be a good person to review your book.
  • You can ask fellow authors to ask who their agent is, what they do to address different topics.
  • When you sell something you have to build a relationship. You don’t want to bug them every day. After the first sale, wait 4 weeks before contacting them. Be respectful and courteous commination when they first reply, say when can I expect a future contact.

Advanced first aid

I want to preparedness fair and these are some notes from one of the presentations. Any misinformation is the fault o the note taker.

When there’s a hole in the body where the lung is punctured you want to seal the whole. By taping plastic, credit card, whatever can create a seal over the wound. Tape in all areas except at the base where you create a slit to let blood escape. But it will also let the lung be sealed so I inflate.

  • Sign of lung damage is when someone has difficulty breathing. The thorax on the throat shifts to which damage long.
  • Head injury: eyes will look away from the area of the brain that is damaged.
  • Tourniquet: place 2 inches above the wound. Then write a T on the forehead of the patient. This will let emergency personnel know about the tourniquet. Release the tourniquet every 15 minutes a notch. See if blood flow resumes. If so resume the original knot if not then loosen. You want to put only a small bandage over the wound because we want to monitor the amount of blood that exits the room
  • When doing a bandage you can tie into two knots twisted knots to tighten the material and then locked down the pencil to keep the twist maintained. It will act as a handle to the screw.
  • Splints: when doing a splint on the arm instead of shaping and arm splint on the damaged arm shape it to the good arm and then transferred to the damning storm. For the foot you want the foot to be in a natural state. So you create an L-shaped so that the foot is at a 90% angle which is its natural state. When doing an arm set it up so that the fingers conferral into a soft fist which is relaxed state of the hand. Otherwise, the tendons of these body parts can have long-term damage because they heal wrong.
  • 95% of dislocated shoulders are in the front of the arm. The quicker you reset the dislocation the better
  • Blood pressure can tell you if the person is in shock or has internal bleeding. You want to check it every few minutes. If there’s a change in there’s a problem the top number is not as important as the bottom.

Notes from church

  • We must be constantly aware of those who come into the gospel and maintain contacts.
  • New members don’t know all the rules on how to fulfill a calling and we need to have patience as they acclimate to the ways the church does things.
  • Many people feel that once they are baptized the member no longer care about them.
  • Other people report how they have been supported and welcome into the gospel and it makes it easier for them to be strong in the church.
  • The gospel gives them a new outlook on life and a new perspective. They change their lives.
  • We must never lose sight of the importance of the individual.
  • A convert testimony turns cold is a tragedy.
  • Members of the church who are unethical in their business actives can discourage people from investigating the church or being active in the gospel. One’s behavior is a reflection of the church.
  • Youtube: one by one song.
  • Converts don’t have the extensive knowledge of the church and need to grow from the basics.
  • Remember that we have our own language in the church and they don’t know what terms mean i.e.: visiting teaching, high council, steakhouse. We need to be patient.
  • It is extremely scary to go to church and wonder if anyone will say hi and interact with them.
  • Watch making less active as their current project. The relationships need to be unconditional. We need to be consistent in our friendships. Some teens don’t give others the time of day until they became a project.
  • Different investigators and inactive have their own time frame. Being constant in friendship makes you ready when they are ready. One aunt visits an inactive niece. Just talked about other things and maintained a friendship.
  • Sometimes investigators don’t return. They feel too much pressure on wanting them active. Just love others for who they are.
  • It’s not an easy thing to transition our life into the gospel. It can mean changing friendships, stopping fulfillments of past aspirations and loneliness.
  • Even existing members need to be reconverted to different subjects. If we are all a kinder and less judgmental we can help someone.
  • God is sad because of our lock of fellowship because someone is lost.
  • If attendees don’t have a friend at church they will be drawn back to the place where they had friends.
  • We can all offer friendly greetings when someone new comes in.
