Tim Adrian: My Pledge as a Senator
    1. I promise to hold all public servants accountable to the restraints of the Constitution, regardless of party.
    2. I will work to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act, but until it is repealed, I will not exempt myself from it as other legislators have.
    3. I will not buy, sell, or trade stocks, bonds, or other financial tools while in office to avoid the appearance of “insider trading” as other legislators do.
    4. I will serve a maximum of 2 terms. I know we have all heard that before, but I enjoy my job as an engineer and do not believe public service should be a career.
    5. I will not accept any retirement plan given to legislators. The burden of retirement is for me to cover, not tax payers.
    6. I will always advocate for and support the Utah Caucus System.

Utah’s freedom is in your hands. Let me tell you a story.
In 2006 my team ran for U.S senate against Orrin Hatch. We finished second, collecting 17% of the delegate vote at the Utah State Republican nominating convention. We were very disappointed but it was considered a very successful campaign. Since that first race I have been elected to the Utah state central committee and to Utah’s National delegation and have run for US House of Representatives. I was part of a very innovative campaign to put 3 people into Utah’s state party leadership. We were able to put it in two out of the three. Those two were instrumental in raising awareness to the fact that Utah lost it’s ability to have verifiable nominating Republican conventions. A $25,000 anonymous donation in 2012 paid for that illegitimate system. That alone should have raised flags that something was wrong. And that is where the 2018 Utah State Republican delegates are going to save the day by restoring verifiable accountable Republican nominating conventions.
Under the current system every Republican nominated at the state convention has the potential of being illegitimately nominated. Even when cheating was difficult under a traceable election process we have always had cheating and cheating attempts. Now that cheating is easier to accomplish and more difficult to trace the likelihood of cheating has increased. That is a tremendous injury to the cause of Liberty. So now my team has undertaken an even more innovative campaign strategy based on one of the most Fearless Statesman America has ever produced: Abraham Lincoln. We project it will even the playing field between Mitt Romney with his fame and fortune and Brian Jenkins and his statesmanship. We project that this strategy will allow us to change to verifiable voting at the state nominating convention and that it will give us an edge to beat Romney at the primary in June. Mr. Romney will be at the June primary regardless of his voting outcome at the nominating convention, as he has bypassed the caucus and convention system by purchasing signatures.
There are people, including former Utah Republican Party vice chair Lowell Nelson, that are working to restore verifiable Utah state Republican Party nominating elections. Those of us who are trying to bring about the cause of freedom are working on these foundational elements. If this seems like a worthy cause to you please be sure to get a hold of me. Thank you for your service.
Some delegates are asking what the next step is in insuring accountable verifiable elections. So I called two of the most experienced elections people in the Republican party in the state of Utah, Lowell Nelson and Drew Chamberlin. Lowell is a former state party vice chair and Drew is a former state party secretary. We called Lillian Bittner the current elections chair. Lillian gave us an hour of her time in the middle of travelling with her family to St George. Drew and Lowell and I presented our ideas of how to make sure that the upcoming nominating convention will have verifiable elections. Laurel and Drew know the ins-and-outs and history of ranked paper voting versus non-ranked paper voting versus electronic voting. They know what has gone wrong and what has worked. They know how long electronic voting conventions have taken and how long paper ballot conventions have taken. Lowell is a particularly valuable asset in understanding electronic voting as he is a programmer. He even knows how to do VERIFIABLE electronic voting. He could program it in a week. His website demonstrates exactly how it works. Lowell showed the party leadership in years gone by how to do verifiable electronic voting. The party leadership was not interested. They want to be trusted. It is worrisome that an anonymous $25,000 donation came in specifically for electronic voting.
Eventually it came out that the anonymous donation was from a candidate in the race. That creates a conflict of interest. Drew and Lowell believe that the only reasonable solution for the nominating convention on the 21st is to conduct it with paper ballots. Party leadership responds that paper ballots have a history of cheating. Which is true. It in fact confirms that cheating occurs and must be guarded against. Paper voting leaves a trail. It is traceable and verifiable, which exposes cheating – thus discouraging the cheater. With unverifiable elections, no evidence of cheating remains – thus discouraging complaints of cheating.
Jefferson said: “Say no more of the goodness of man but bind him with the chains of the Constitution.” Likewise, let us now say no more about the goodness and trustworthiness of those who say “do not worry” about verifiability just trust us. But let us find them with verifiable elections. Electronic voting proponents also say that paper balloting takes too long. But remember that electronic balloting is all we had up until 2012. And the longest conventions we have ever had were after 2012 when the electronic balloting was paid for by an anonymous donor. This year the party is considering filing for bankruptcy. Yet they intend to pay $25,000 for unverifiable electronic balloting. Where will that money come from? Will there be another anonymous donor?
