I always learn great things at Toastmasters and one of the presenters gave suggestions when you want to choose a soundtrack for an event. Here are some his suggestions. This soundtrack may be for music video, background music for certain event etc.. Any mis-information is the fault of the note taker.

  • Determine the length of the music, so it fits within the timeframe of the event or a particular moment of an event such as a scene in a movie.
  • Music needs to match the event. If it’s scary, then have scary music. You don’t want to have romantic music during tense moment etc.
  • If you’re not certain what to do, then check out what other people have done for aa similar task. Let their work inspire you. Seek out what others have done that will help you determine your path. You can then alter their ideas to meet your circumstances
  • Beware of the copyright of the music you use. You can contact the owner of the music and ask permission. The original artist may restrict you as to where or you how long you can use it. A cost may be involved.
  • World safe free licenses: may be upfront to ask for pay to use for a certain amount of time. You may be asked to give the artist name or maybe how other people can access the music.
  • Free use is another avenue
  • You will want to be aware of certain concerns about volume. Volume of the song cannot blast out the words of the dialogue.
  • Do the words of the song match the circumstance of your event?. If the words don’t match that song may not be appropriate. Can you understand the words been song.
  • com is a good website for this type of activity
