Panel at life the universe and everything.  I found the subject interesting.

  • Goes through a political process. An uprising from the bottom and has a strong good versus evil theme.
  • It the people opposes the elite of some kind.
  • Chavez: said America is evil.
  • Countries anti-Russian that are not part of Russia. Eastern bloc who felt Russia picked on them.
  • Involves a charismatic leader who becomes the voice of the people.
  • Populism tends to rise when they feel something in their life is in threat. Want a government that will fix the problem for us.
  • Early 1900 in Russia there were restrictions and people were starving and finally overthrew the monarchy.
  • Most people are rational when it comes to their own needs. But they will believe in someone who can take care of their biggest fear.
  • Mussolini did make the trains run on time.
  • The effect of taking care of a problem is the perception of being addressed not necessarily being fixed.
  • Stalin made them feel safe. Wanted to make sure that people who wanted rights they got them.
  • Hitler had an escape goat blaming country ills on Jews and homosexual.
  • Hitler invaded first countries that had Germans in it
  • Russia invaded Ukraine as it had Russians in it. Eastern Ukraine identifies themselves as Russian.
  • Germany and Russia sent people to other countries so that when they vote they want to join their mother country.
  • Populism is a man and a moment converging.
  • Arab spring was populist > but didn’t have a real leader. Social media allows groups to move events faster. It does not change the basic need a charismatic leader to succeed.
  • When someone is accused without being popular if they move from one group to another group that’s a symbol. One group is no longer a worthwhile scapegoat the will find another scapegoat.
  • Vote Loki: is a book that shows an example of a Popularist movement.
  • Love people and having a sound mind is effective then attack.
  • Freak-outs are usually lopsided. Supporters of popular leaders can see antis are not sharing legit info and the followers no longer trust the antis.
  • Hitler gained power with a small base was influenced by the parnonmant / government rules
  • Fiction book: level headiness. Franklin Roosevelt: He did a lot of put people to work that was unconstitutional. Panel thought he was a popularist who didn’t go bad.
  • Occupy movements: was anger at the elite.
  • Trump and Berny Sanders was Populism from both sides.
  • Examples of populism in history: look for revolutions in history. Kirk Ogens> Vaneswella.
  • Almost all human endeavor/movements are based on emotion.
  • 1917 Russia was two popularities’ groups fighting each other.
  • It has to come from the bottom an attitude of good versus evil.
