These are notes from a marriage class at church.

  • 87 % of divorce is due to finances.
  • Pay an honest tithe. If you pay tithing you are always blessed. Couples report that paying a tithe report they were always able to pay their bills.
  • Paying tithing helps you learn priorities.
  • A new convert once said she had to choose between paying tuitions and tithing. She paid tithing. Her boss at work later paid for her school
  • Live Frugally.  Paid extra on savings and it was there when needed. Some parents will buy pants for school then when the knees are worn out, they cut the pants legs to make shorts.
  • You can eat the food at home rather than going out.
  • Distinguish between needs and wants.
  • Budget wisely.
  • You can create a budget.
  • If you have five bills you pay the lowest first and then when the first is paid. Import the money used for the first bill into the second lowest. It gives you a sense of accomplishment of getting things paid off.

  • Health and life insurance are an important part of the budget.
  • Be honest in all your financial affairs.
  • Manage finances together is an opportunity for a couple to be closer. All the family can work on being frugal.
  • Some parents will show their children their financial status to give them a better appreciation of what involved in running a household.

  • One set of parents played a game with fake money and gave all the kids the bills and had them pay the bills to give them an idea of money management.
  • Put both names on all vehicles. Do not put and but put or on the deed.
