  • The beginning of your book needs to set up questions in the reader’s mind.

  • In the plot summary/back of the book avoid big words.
  • You want to concentrate on who wears what and why.

  • You need to make promises and deliver them.
  • Need to have very powerful first lines and great closing lines.
  • The opening line of the story in an anthology needs to meet the theme of the anthology
  • Study different for sentences and first paragraphs
  • The problem with nano nano (book in a month) is that people think they can write a book and not and it’s ready to sell. That’s just the first draft
  • A great mistake for many authors is thinking they need to have the first two pages be perfect to move on. Later you can go back and rewrite it.
  • To proofread you miss things on screen so print it out.
  • Reading out loud also helps to catch more.
  • If the beta reader says something is wrong they may be right even though they can’t identify what is wrong.
  • The author makes the final decision of what to be fixed
  • Show world building in first two pages
  • Start with character’s name and problem. to begin with the ending.
