This is from a panel I attend about a year ago from the LTUE symposium. Hope my notes will be of use.

  • A good book will cross multiple ages.
  • Boys do not want to read books that have girlish covers.
  • Mini Harrison has an article about YA fiction.
  • Tell an awesome story, no matter the gender
  • boys want to be entertained.
  • Boy books need to be a gateway to get boys to love reading again.
  • Don’t limit yourself to and intended audience. Your audience maybe bigger then the target audience. Don’t limit yourself.
  • Find out from writer’s market. The same type of books you write the cell be a good source of whose meant to
  • turn boys: is when boys are acting like boys. Edward of twilight is an example.
  • Boy books need stuff to happen, fast-paced.
  • 60% of why a readers or adults.
  • Watch navel gazing in boy books. They don’t like it don’t like a lot of self-reflection.
  • Boy books. want tension, action and plot.
  • Meet a lot of action all the way through the book. If not, action, then a scene of plotting action.
  • Talk to your target audience and see how they think differently.
